Tiana Parker Pov 1981
I watched as my parents silver caskets lower into the ground. I didn't shed a tear because I knew that I had to be brave for my little sister. The wind was blowing and all was heard was loud sobbing from other family members. Some looked at me like I was from the planet mars. Why had I not been crying? Let it out. All of my cousins, aunts, and uncles kept repeating. I bit my toungue as they shoved dirt down where the caskets lay, not making them shine anymore.
"Honey wake up. It's your first day of school." My mom's soft voice rang in my ears every time I looked at her casket.
"Nice job Pumpkin you finally caught it." My dad's deep and husky voice cheered.
Drips of wetness were starting to prick my eyes and I rubbed them away before my sister could witness them. I didn't know how I was going to support both of us, with me only 16. I learned that my aunt and uncle are taking us to California to live with them. Even though my dad became a drug addict close to the end of his life, I still loved and appreciated him and tried to get him to stay clean. Unfortunatley it was too late, they both died in a car accident from a drunk driver.
"Riley are you ok?" My aunts comforting voice was not even close to my mothers but it was alright for now.
I didn't feel like talking so I slapped on a forced smile and nodded before grabbing my little sister's hand. She nodded in understanding and walked away to give my grandparents a hug who were crying over the loss. I felt a small tug at my dress and looked down to see my sister with her lively dancing eyes now dull and red. Her cheeks were stained with cheeks.
"Why aren't you crying T? " Her soft voice asked.
I shrugged rubbing her hair softly, "I cried earlier." I whispered kissing her forehead.
She seemed to believe me and dropped it as we got back in the limo and drove back to our new home with my aunt and uncle. Goodbye Georgia. Hello California.

Tiana Parker's Pov 1988
"Tiana get down here now!" My aunt Bonnie yelled from downstairs.
I groaned under my breath and dropper my pen on my notebook and made my way downstairs. "Yes?" I asked sitting on the small couch in the living room.
She had a smile plastered on her face and she held up a letter that was from Harvard and Yale. "You've been accepted to both colleges isn't that great!" she asked excitedly.
I on the other hand was not. I needed to stay here with my sister so we can get out of here. I had a job but I rarely got a lot of offers and when I did my aunt would take the money and use it for herself.
I blew out a breath and shrugged. "Tiana what do you mean.." she copied my actions of shrugging. "This is a great opportunity and I think that this is the best for you." I mentally scoffed and rolled my eyes.
What does she know about what's best for me. She hasn't cared all these years and now she cares so much. That's complete bull.
"I don't need to go to college in order to do something I really want to do which is write songs." I stated picking at my nails.
"Tiana, if you just apply yourself then maybe you can do something better than writing. Your barely making any money with that career and you can go to college and find something else!" She was getting agitated and so was I
"I wonder why I'm not making any money, Bonnie. Maybe it's because you keep taking it for yourself because you don't do shit with your own life!" this was the first time I cursed and her hand came down and slapped me across the face.
My head whipped to the side and I heard a whimper and I saw my little sister in the doorway with her friends behind her. "I need to go out and get a drink. Don't test me little girl." she pointed a finger at me before walking out the door.
My cheek stung and I immediately knew that a bruise would form. My sister rambled on to her friends that this wasn't a good time and she had a lot of homework. She finally got then out the door and rushed to me with tears on her cheeks as she tries to touch me but I flinched.
A flash of hurt came across her eyes and I instantly felt bad. "I'm sorry Ri I didn't mean to flinch." I apologized getting up.
She nodded in understand meant and went to get me a icepack. My flip phone rang in my pocket and I picked it up. "Hello this is Tiana." I said placing the ice pack my sister brought back against my cheek. "Hello Tiana I was wondering if you wanted to write for one of my clients. Unfortunately it's his whole album so you will have to live with him for 5 months are you up for that. At the end you get 300,000 dallors." My eyes widened at the amount.
I will be able to get out of here and buy a house or apartment, but I can't leave Ri alone by herself especially not after what just happened. I bit my lip trying to think but I couldn't with so much on my mind. "Can I think about it?" I asked politely as possible.
"Yes of course. Just call us when you make up your mind. The number is 5647883." I searched for a pen and wrote it down quickly on a piece of paper before I forgot. "Ok thank you so much. I'll get back to you soon. Bye" I hung up and jumped up and down.
Hopefully my sister won't mind because I really want and need this job.
