Chapter 1. The Funeral...
It was 6 a.m. I had just finished doing my make-up, and was now slipping into my black dress. I zipped it up and made my way downstairs and into the cab.
"Where to?" The Indian taxi driver asked politely. "The Greenswood cemetery, please." I said as I leaned back into the seat. I watched as the gray city of Chicago flew pass. A stray tear escaped my baby blue hues once I brought up the memories of my sickly pale mother telling me of her disease.
It had been a month since then, and today was her funeral. She had died a week before today, leaving me in a sad lonely world of misery.
The cab slowly came to a stop at the entrance of the cemetery. I thanked him and payed my fee. I slowly got out and surveyed the gloomy area, before walking up to one of the flowers sellers.
I calmly walked inside the church, where the funeral was being held. I had invited very few friends and family members, so it was more of and intimate gathering.
I took a seat and breathed in deep breaths, as to not cry. Shortly after the priest recited a few words from the holy bible, we went straight to the burial grounds.
As they were lowering her a sob escaped, and then the tears were tumbling down my flushed cheeks. It was as if a barrier had been removed from the dam and all the water came rushing at a violent pace.
Three days later, I got a call from my mothers lawyer, saying that I would have to drop by to receive what she had left for me in her will.

"Ms. Little, how nice to see you! Please sit down." She said, gesturing me to the big leather seat in front of her desk. I took a seat and she took out some papers.
"Now, what your mother has left you is very little. But, to receive those things, you must spend at least a year at your fathers residence."
Wait. What?! "Excuse me, but that can't be possible. My father was barely in my life, AND he lives in Louisiana! I live in New York!!"
"Well, I'm sorry ms. Little, but that is what your mother said she wanted you to do. "
"Fine." I mumble and lean back against the chair in defeat. "That's great, there will be a plane arranged for you on Friday, seeing that today is Tuesday, you have two days to pack.
"I suggest you bring all of you're belongings because your mother said if you like it there, you shall be even more wiling to stay. Besides all of the things she has left you are near your fathers property."
"B-b-but!" She wouldn't let me finish as she slammed the door in my face, and gestured me to the yellow cab that's waiting in the parking lot.
I huffed in annoyance after I gave the driver my address. "Great! Just Peachy!"
