Chapter Three

I'm baaaack...

School had ended, and he still didn't know what would make Wendy happy after the news was broken.

He was always the first one to get out of school, so he waited outside for the others. Erza came out a few minutes after him, catching him staring off in deep thought.

"Still racking your brain I see." Her voice brought Natsu out of his stupor.

"Yeah."

She shook her head, content with just waiting in silence next to him. The silence didn't last long, because Juvia ran out of school and almost crashed into Erza.

"You'll never guess what happened!" Her eyes were filled with a wild frenzied and she looked just about ready to burst

"What?"

"THEY BROKE UP!"

Confusion warped both of their features. "Who?" Natsu asked, intrigued.

"Lucy and Sting, dammit! Keep up!"

Erza's eyes practically bugged out of her head. "You're kidding!" To which Juvia started recounting the story of how she was going through her Twitter feed, when she saw something that Lucy posted. She screenshotted it, and showed them both.

'We broke up. So that happened.'

"They've been dating for three frickin years. Why would they break up now?"

Natsu's interest rose when he heard how long they've been together. Three years seemed like a long time to be dating, especially since Lucy was only eighteen.

"I have no idea. But people are saying that it's cause he cheated on her."

Erza expressed her outrage with telling out obscenities while Natsu's eyes widened. He's seen Lucy before. How could any guy in their right mind wanna cheat on someone who was the total package?

"Apparently, people think they've been broken up for weeks and only just now confirmed it."

"That's insane."

Natsu looked at his watch. He still had time before he had to pick Wendy up but, he still wanted to think of something that'll cheer her up.

"Hey, guys, I gotta go. Tell Gray and Gajeel that they took forever."

They only waved at him, to engrossed in their celebrity gossip to pay much mind to him.

Natsu drove out of the schools parking lot, intent on going to the nearest gas station and buying Wendy her favorite comfort food. Once he bought the unreasonably overpriced bag of HotFries and Gatorade, he made his way to Wendy's middle school to pick her up.

As soon as he got into the pick up area, he saw Wendy's distinct blue hair. He drove up to her and she wordlessly got in. That told him everything he needed to know.

"So, how was your day?"

She turned to him and gave him a level look. "Mom texted me during lunch. A couldn't get tickets. How do you think my day was?"

He nodded. Of course he'd been expecting that witty reply but he didn't expect the underlaying sadness in her words. He reached into the back seat an pulled up a bag.

"Well, I was getting gas and I thought you might like some food."

"Thanks, I guess."

As he began to drive, he realized he didn't have a thing to say to her. The silence was deafening, to say the least. He decided some music could ease up the lingering tension between the two.
