They were two very different persons. The popular dancer and the quiet, timid girl with a sharp mind.
She stared across the room and, among the people dancing and laughing, she spotted her in the middle, the dancer. She smiled with sadness as she watched her smiling and laughing with her circle of friends.
She knew she couldn't have her. Not now, not ever. The dancer looked up from among her friends and stared across the dance floor. On the far corner, she saw her, the timid girl.
She smiled her way, but she knew she wouldn't see. She knew she couldn't have her. Not now, not ever.Seconds later, they look up and made eye contact. They smiled at each other.
"Excuse me," the timid girl said to her small circle of friends. "I have to go somewhere."
"Sorry," the dancer excused. "I have to go talk to someone."
The two walked towards each other, smiles illumined on their faces and different emotions taking place in their eyes.
"Hey Angeline," the dancer greeted. "You look nice."
"Thank you," the timid girl, Angeline, said. "You don't look so bad yourself."
They stared at each other and sighed.
"You're okay with her?" Angeline said, discreetly gesturing at another girl. "I mean, are you guys okay?"
The dancer smiled and chuckled.
"Yeah, we're okay," she answered. "How about you? And him?"
Angeline turned her head and smiled as she looked back at the dancer.
"I guess we're okay."An uncomfortable silence danced around them.
"So," the dancer started. "Would you like to have a dance?"
She stretched her hand for Angeline to take.
Angeline smiled.
"Of course."
They danced in each other's arms. No him, no her, just them. It was as if they were drowning in each other. After dancing, they talked for awhile about current happenings and unfortunate events.
"Thanks for the night, Angeline." The dancer thanked.
As they bid their farewell, Angeline smiled softly.
"Thank you, Kate," She started. "For all the things you've done for me."
Satisfied with her statement, Angeline walked away and towards her small group of friends while Kate walked towards her own.
And as the night ended, they, once again, became two very different persons.
