The little, agile desert fairy jumped exuberantly on the shoulder of the Tasmanian queen and made her stumble. The visitors from the north had no use for the habits of the southern folk and you could see it in the queen that she could hardly contain her anger about the fairy's rude behavior. The delicate, winged creature was actually not a lot bigger than a fly but behaved just as annoying and basked in the generally tense atmosphere. Determined to keep peace at least ostensibly, king Scⱥr smiled (something the dictatorial, Dehnarian King would never do under normal circumstances) and friendly shook the Tasmanian queen's hand."It's an honor to meet you." He greeted the guests that traveled here from Tasmania, with an unusual cheerful voice and bridged the language barrier with extensive gestures and an abnormal big smile, by his standards.
Tristan could see that the king just desperately tried to get this visitation over and done with smoothly. The country needed peace and stability. Accomplished by an alliance, sealed with the marriage of his oldest son Joshua and the Tasmanian princess Izabel. They mastered the welcoming ceremony confidently, that Tristan followed fascinated. The life at court had always been impressive to him. Unfortunately, he was now in his final year of the apprenticeship as caregiver of magical creatures and he did not know where he would end up afterwards. He definitely did not want to leave the Dehnarian court, but he did not really have a say in that regard and had to accept, where the authority would send him.
"As a sing of my blessings towards this connection, I have prepared an engagement present for the bride." The king explained detailed, while the translator conveyed his words quietly to the Tasmanian guests. In the meantime the king straightened himself a bit more and puffed up his chest confidently. The purple coat glistened in the light of the burning sun.
Excited, Tristan leaned forward. Now the king would present the gift to the princess. Tristan's eyes followed the casket that contained the present, equally nervous and elated. It was of such a high value, no necklace, no jewel could ever reach it, because this very well treasured and guarded item was nothing else than a dragon egg. A water dragon's egg, in fact. That this breed belonged to the rarest and most precious animal species of the entire north made it unbelievable valuably. But on Godsquana, dragons were especially regarded to be symbols of peace – what marked them as truly special in this current conflict situation. And none other but Tristan had provided its care over the past few months. He was incredibly proud that he had been given such an important task, and now he just could burst with subtle pride. The page handed the casket ceremonially over to the prince. The young prince seemed nervous and clumsy. When he walked towards the beautiful Princess Izabel, he nearly tripped over the red carpet.
It was obvious that the king could barely keep his anger under control. The fake smile he had put on earlier, swayed more and more over to a grimace. But Tristan could understand the unconcealed admiration for the princess. She really was captivating, with her long, blond hair that floated over her back like gold. In the south, most people had dark, almost black hair and tanned skin – now having such a pale angel standing in front of you seemed unreal to most of the bystanders.
Prince Joshua stepped forward and opened the casket with slightly flushed cheeks. Tristan studied the Princesses face elated. He was excited for her surprise and joy. Without a doubt, he expected a beaming smile and a delighted sparkle in the Princesses bright blue eyes. But no such thing happened. Instead, the Princess looked abashed from one to another. Something here was wrong. Unsettled, Tristan hopped from one foot to the other. He would've liked the best to just rush forward immediately.
"But there is nothing inside." Said the Princess in clumsy Dehnarian and looked from the prince to the king, as if she expected them to uncover this as a simple joke.
The king dashed forward in pure panic and yanked the casket too crudely, so that the terrified Princess stumbled a few steps back. It was clear that different manners dominated her country.
"No, No." The king screamed in rustic Dehnarian, his southern accent made his words sound like a growl. No surprise, that the Tasmanian Queen flinched frightened.
"No! The dragon egg, it's gone!"
Untamed rage seethed in king Scⱥr and he couldn't keep it hidden behind the curtain any longer. Although it must be clear to him that it made not a good impression on the Tasmanian royal family. They certainly had not mastered the national language enough to understand what the king was mad about and that made his appearance even more terrifying. But Tristan took fright as well. The dragon egg couldn't have simply disappeared. That was a horrible scandal. But he only cared for the wellbeing of the disappeared dragon egg. It was one of the most beautiful and rarest breeds and of unimaginable value. Tristan was sure, it only could've been stolen – but who did it?
