Grrmmhmm… Never again will I get that drunk; rolling out of bed my head began to pound and my stomach turned. Rushing to the bathroom I made it just in time to expel the continence of last night’s night on the town. Damn this hangover is a bitch. Turning on the hot water I grabbed my toothbrush and headed back to the shower and hopped in. It was so relaxing that the headache was slowly going away, although probably not for long. Tonight was the dinner with the rest of my family. All hell is going to break loose. After the shower I put on some sweats and went down stairs to watch some TV and wait till it was time to get ready for dinner.

I must have fallen asleep, because I joulsted awake to the sound of my landline ringing. I know what you’re thinking, who has those anymore. But I do because I don’t carry my cell with me around the house. Carmen’s voice blared through the speaker.

RACHAEL!! Where the hell are you?!

Shit shit shit shit what time was it? I looked over to the microwave to see 6:45 lit up in green. Damn I’m so late and not even ready.

Carmen I fell asleep but I am on my way soon!!

Rachel everyone is here waiting for you. By the way mother is pissed you’re late.

IM COMING OK!

Rushing up the stairs two at a time I quickly made my way into my closet pulling out the first causal dress that my hands touched and grabbed some black flats. It’s funny how guys feel special when girls wear dresses for them but really most girls hate wearing pants and dresses are convenient and comfy. Touching up my hair and makeup at my vanity I went to the garage and grabbed a random pair of keys. Pressing the unlock button the lights flashed of my new royal blue Camaro, I hopped in and treaded out of the garage trying to make up for some loss time by speeding.

Pulling up to the drive way I could already see the cars of those who belonged to my brothers and sister sitting idly and cold to the touch, meaning they have been here for a while. Damn damn damn I was so late and the little clicking my flats did announced my arrival; so when I walked through the front door my mother was standing there with a disapproval look on her face.

“Rachael, I thought I taught you better than that? You know what time this family eats dinner, and here you are showing up almost two hours late! Has Hollywood gotten to you?”

“Mom I’m sorry I’m late.”

Putting my head down a little I felt ashamed by the look my mother gives me. No matter how old I get she still has control, always she has been the strict and rule maker kind of parent. But what’s got me through those 18 years of feeling like a disappointment to my mother; stands behind her looking like a big muscular giant. If you didn’t know him my dad would look like the scariest man alive but in reality he is just a big teddy bear and Carmen and I are huge daddy’s girls.

“Loretta leaves my baby girl alone! Ray Ray come give daddy a hug!”

Running into your dads arms may have seemed childish but I did it anyway, what could I say he is my world. Squeezing him tight gave me a sense of home feeling; it made me feel a little better knowing he would protect me when I spilled my plans.

“Now that big sis is here can we eat please? I’m starving!”

“Shut up boy; since you’ve been back from college you’re already eating us outta house and home.”

Everyone that had gathered around the entrance of the house to watch my little arrival, all laughed at Jared’s interruption.

“Well I see no reason to wait now that all my children have arrived.” Mom said as she gave me another little evil eye with a hint of a smile.
