The Champions

Chapter 1: Chuck

Hi, I'm Chuck the guy who narrated the start and told you about the others of my group and our sob stories well you know about that let me tell you about how we became champions. We were hanging out after school at the lake outside of our town Crystal tear on friday, it was the middle of spring and we were at our usual area on the far side of the lake sitting at the table like we usually do, JJ is playing with his cards while talking with Isabel, David and Alex are hanging out talking about the fight that happened in the library. Lucy and I were sitting on the bench when I suddenly wanted to go skip rocks like back when I lived in Washington.
"Hey Lucy, want to go skip rocks?" I asked kinda awkwardly.
"Really Chuck? Skipping rocks, what are you, seven?" JJ said in a sarcastic tone.
"Did anyone ask you Jessie?" Lucy said in a sarcastic tone with a smile on her face. "I would love to Chuck."
Lucy and I started walking down to the lake when behind us I heard, "Don't forget a condom Chuck!" I turn a see Alex waving and smiling at us. Alex is Lucy's best friend so she can make those jokes. We got to the edge of the lake and Lucy asked me a question.
"So why did you want to skip rocks?" Lucy asked smiling as she picks up a rock.
"I just thought it would be fun, I would do that a lot when I lived in Washington."
"Oh, so this if we were making this a competition I would lose?" She said with a beautiful smile.
"Maybe, but I'm a little rusty." I picked up a rock and threw it, skipping it ten times. Lucy looked in awe of the fact that the rock even skipped.
"A little rusty huh? I think I'm allowed to call bullshit on that one." She looked at me with a smile on her face.
"Yes, I'm a little rusty, I would usually get it across a lake bigger than this." I responded with a smile. I picked up another rock and threw it, but this skip wasn't very good; it just kinda flopped after the first skip but it still made it nearly to the center of the lake. "And with that attempt, I shall retire my career as a professional rock skipper."
A few seconds later, there was a rumble and bubbling at the center of the lake. The rest of the group came running to where we were.
"What the hell is going on?!" JJ said in a panic.
"I don't know! I just skipped a rock and then shit just started rumbling."
"What the hell? Look at the center of the lake!" David said confused.
We all turned around and saw that a structure was rising out of the lake. "What the hell did you do Chuck?!" Isabel asked in fear.
"I already said that all I did was skip a rock! I have no clue how just skipping a rock did that!"
The rumbling stopped as the structure surfaced the water, it was a dark structure that looked like it had engravings on it. There was suddenly a large boom in the structure followed by laughter.
"Hahaha I'm finally free! Hahahaha!" We all looked to the sky as it changed to a red wine color and were scared out of our minds.
"I'm going to ask this just once, did you guys hear that too, or am I just going on a bad acid trip?" Alex said worried.
"No no, I'm pretty sure we all heard it, what the hell it was, we don't know." I said worried.
There was another rumble and a path sprouted from the water to the structure. It was a onyx colored path that it was engraved with some sort of writing and symbols.
"What the hell man, what's going on?!" Isabel said in a panic and grabbing her hair and proceeding to start laughing.
"Well we lost her, I say we go check it out." JJ said surprisingly calm like.
"What makes you say that?" David asked in confusion.
"I don't know, I just feel drawn to it." Isabel stopped laughing and we just all looked at him. After a few seconds, we all calmed down and realized that we felt the same way.
"Ok, let's go check it out." I said nervously. "Everyone behind me."
We all walked down the onyx colored walkway. Once we got to the structure, we suddenly realized how large it was. There was enough room to hold three full NFL football fields.
"Holy hell, there's so much room in here." Lucy said in awe.
"Forget that, look at what's on the walls!" David said energetically.
There were many different armor suits and weapons from what seemed like different ages. We all seemed to circle the room until we all stopped in front of different armors and weapons.
I stopped at some egyptian armor with a Anubis headdress. The armor had an engraving with two Khopesh swords that were each about a foot long, which is shorter than normal ones which were normally about two feet long, these also had less of a curve on them than normal ones.
JJ stopped in front of what looked like clothing a ninja would wear, but made out of some smooth looking material. It had a few knives around the clothing, it looked to be Japanese.
Lucy stopped in front of a set of armor that looked to be hardened leather and a leather helm. There were also eight rings that had two points on each one. I recognized the rings to be Japanese fighting rings called Kakute. The armor was also hardened Japanese leather.
Alex stopped at a black hooded cloak that seemed to go all the way down to her ankles. Above it was a blood red scythe with three black blades attached to it; the top one was the largest. The middle one was a bit smaller, and the bottom one was the smallest. It was about as big as she is, so I don't know how she was going to even lift the damn thing. I haven't seen anything like that before, so I have no clue where it was from or how old it was.
Isabel was in front of some full body leather armor that varied in different colors of browns that actually seemed really pleasant to the eye. The armor also seemed to have engravings inscribed into it. There were two egyptian looking knives that were hooked, which also had engravings on them. The knives also had about a foot of chain with iron cuffs on the end of each of them.
David was in front of set of armor that looked like it would be something a knight would wear. With a large sword and some barbs protruding from the side, it was wrapped in leather, but there was a blue glow coming from a line down the middle which wasn't covered. The sword gave me a bad vibe, and I don't know why it just creeped me out.
"Guys this isn't a good idea, but I can't help but I just can't help the feeling of just taking the weapons and armor, what about you guys?" JJ asked with this blissful tone.
"I know what you are saying but what are they doing here?" Isabel asked a little worried.
"I don't know but I want to see how these weapons feel." I say very excitedly "I second this motion."
David said. Alex and Lucy said at the same time "I agree."
"So we are all at a conclusion, grab em."
We all grabbed the armor and put them on, we also grabbed our weapons except for JJ he still didn't know that what weapon went with his armor.
"Mine fits really well, what about you guys?" I asked "Mine fits perfectly." JJ said "Same here." David Isabel and Lucy said at the same time. "So does mine, also that was weird you three." Alexandra said and points to all three of them.
I look towards JJ and he is patting his chest and sides and just about his whole body. "Um JJ what are you doing?"
"I feel something in my clothing but I don't know what it is they feel like knifes." JJ said feeling his arm.
I noticed that there was a hole under the sleeve. "Weird, hey JJ did you rip the clothing when you brought it down?"
"What are you talking about?" He was frantically looking for the hole and when he found it he wasn't happy. "You gotta be kidding I tore it already." He let his arms drop hard and a knife with a chain flew out and hit the ground with a loud clank.
We all stepped back from this.
"What the hell man? What is that?" Isabel asked scared out of her mind starting to laugh.
"Here we go again, let's just calm down." JJ said while lifting his wrist and arms up bring the knife back into the hole in his sleeve. We all looked and decided that that didn't happen.
"I will repeat my question from earlier, why are these here?" Isabel said.
All of a sudden we heard this deep voice booming from behind us. "They were sealed away here by the last champions of this realm!"
We all jumped in fear. "Who the hell are you!?" Lucy yelled.
The strange man looked at lucy and said. "How about you calm down there missy and I'll tell you." The man said in a snarky tone.
Lucy just looked at him shocked because she wasn't expecting it, all she could say was, "Umm... Ok."
The man looked around the room and then stopped at JJ and tilted his head a little bit then he spoke. "I am King Arthur and the last champion that still lives, but I no longer go by that name in this age, I go by the name Eric Deavmin."
Isabel started laughing and I just stood there awestruck because this legend was standing in front of us, where the other four were just standing there scratching their head trying to figure out the name until Isabel finally stopped laughing and started throwing information around like crazy.
"The King Arthur that ruled in the fifteenth century and went after the Holy Grail." Isabel said sporadically and all shaky from laughing.
The other four looked at her in confusion then they all remembered the famous story they all heard at one point or another all all turned and looked at him in shock.
"Yes that King Arthur, but the Holy Grail was also a fountain of youth so when I drank from it I got the curse of immortality." King Arthur said sadly while touching his lips.
"What about immortality is a curse?" David asked puzzled. "I mean it's gotta suck to see your friends and family die before you, but besides that how is it a curse?"
Eric looked at David and said in a soft tone. "With immortality there is a price, I can no longer fall in love with anyone." He continued to explain to the group.
"Damn, that sucks," Lucy said in a very upset tone. "I couldn't even imagine what you've been through..."
"It's definitely has been hell, but that's not the reason why I am here." He said in a dark tone. "I am here to bring you to your training grounds for all of you to train before the winter solstice, because that is when the Ancient One will be getting it's full power back." He said grimly.
"Wait what are you talking about?!" Lucy blurted out. "What training grounds, what Ancient One?." She said worried.
And with that Isabel started laughing hysterically and David got eyes widened and we all just kinda started freaking out. Well, most of us were except for JJ he had this crazed look in his eyes.
"STOP!" Eric's voice boomed in the temple causing everyone to look at him, except Isabel, she continued to laugh. Eric looked confused at this sight. "Umm, does she do that often?" he asked the rest of us.
"Yes actually she is stressed a lot of the time." I answered
Eric cursed at himself in some sort of old language. "Not again with the damn laughing." He turned around to the entrance of the temple and looks up to the sky.
"What do you mean again?" Lucy asked. "Was that person close to you?"
"The person you speak of was the champion that claimed her and yes we did have a bond, I also had a bond with the other five champions." Eric explained. "Whom of all claimed the rest of you too."
"Wait what do you mean claimed?" JJ said worried "Wait was it when we first entered this room." JJ said all of a sudden. "When we went in a circle, we were being claimed." JJ explained his madness.
We all looked at each other and at everything we have on and we all kinda looked at Eric in conceren.
"So, what does this mean?" David asked "I mean where do we go from here?" He says pointing around to the rest of us.
"You are all going to meet back here tomorrow night at midnight and I will explain more than, but for now you must rest." Eric then started moving his hands in a waving motion and then all of a sudden there was huge flash of light and I was laying face first on my floor.
"What the hell?!" I screamed.
"You ok up there?" I heard my parents scream up to my room.
"Yeah just fell while getting through my window!" I reply.
"Oh ok be careful." They yell back.
My parents are used to me coming through my window because I started to do that back in Washington. I don't know why or how but I just started doing that even if they don't really like me climbing up the side of the house to my window. I took off the armor and put it underneath my bed with the Khopeshes.
"What the hell did I get into?" I asked myself.
I went down stairs and told my parents goodnight and went to bed and wondered how the hell are the others going to hide their armor and weapons.
