THE LIGHTS BRING life to the city as the night starts to swallow the sky into its possession. As the old vacant skytrain runs along its tracks, the passing lights flicker playfully on Candace's Covington's face. It dances on the bridge of her nose until she turns away from the window and waits impatiently for her destination to be called.
The skies are clear tonight, allowing stars from billions of light years away to hover brightly overhead. Below her, the night life starts to emerge from its week long slumber. She shakes her head ever so slightly with a knowing smile. Friday nights are the wake of the night life in this city. Usually, she would be down there, exploring the city and taking photographs of the night. Yet today, she sits in the hard seat of the train, completely exhausted from a long day of school and work. Fatigue seeps into her every pore as the skytrain slowly makes its way past each lonely station.
Suddenly, a ping! goes off in the pocket of her thin black windbreaker. Candace stares at her phone as notifications fill the screen.
The most recent text says it has been delivered to her just now from her best friend, Darcy Perlmann.
hey, are you off work yet?
She smiles as her fingers graze pass the small keyboard on her phone to type her response.
yup! i'm on the skytrain right now :)
that's great! so that arse of a manager of yours actually let you go?
surprising, huh?
tots. let's skype when you get home ;)
lol. you mean *virtually third wheel with you and mason? nawh im good
A Siri-like voice booms out "King George Terminal Station", breaking her train of thoughts. This is her stop. After quickly tossing a gray Jansport backpack on her back, she steps off onto the platform. Candace instantly regrets not wearing extra layers as the chilly night air sweeps past her.
you love us. it's friday. plus what else is there for you to do? reruns of gossip girl?
She rolls her eyes at her friend's prediction and shivers towards the stairs. On this particular Friday night, there is nothing more that Candace wants to do than snuggle in bed, watching the romantic story between Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass unfold on her laptop screen.
let me be! at least chuck bass and nate can keep me good company.
seriously??
But then after a second thought, she smiles knowingly at her phone. She deserves a good laugh after such a long day, especially on a Friday night. Skype is the least she could do.
jk you caught me. xD i'll skype you guys when i'm home.
A satisfied smile breaks upon Candace's lips as she places her phone back into her pocket. She pulls her windbreaker a little closer to her and walks into the night, the thought of home warming her up through the chilly night air.
