the sweet tune of the birds woke me up to the bitter reality.

"eunmi..."

i listened.

it was the voice of my mother who ran away from me and my family to live with another man.

she had left us. and didn't bother returning. not that i wanted her to...

"eunmi.."

there it was again.

"eunmi!" eunha, my older sister shouted as i opened my eyes to find her standing in front of me.

i slowly sat up from my slumber and rubbed my tired eyes.

"ne...unnie?" i answered.

"come, let's go downstairs" she spoke sweetly, lightly tugged on my pyjama sleeve.

"ne, just wait..." i responded, getting out of bed and stretching.

eunha giggled and walked out my room.

i heard her footsteps fading, making me waddle across my room to my small desk.

the table was full of books, but what i was searching for, was my silver heart shaped locker.

it was a holder with my family picture in it.

putting on my necklace, i slipped on my bunny slippers and headed down the kitchen.

after nibbling on my pancake, i quickly washed my hands and tied my shoe laces, ready to set off to school.

as always, we walked past my best friend's house, because i never went to school on my own.

always with her.

"hyerin!" i smiled over at her as she came running down her path way.

i spotted her short chin-length black hair and her greyish blueish eyes in a distance.

her mum waved at us and we waved back.

once school was over, i headed straight home.

the yellow ball of fire changed to hues of orange, and then almost tangerine.

it merged with the sky, like juice-mix dissolving in a glass of water.

the clouds were cotton-candy, as though they blushed at the warm touch of the sun.

silhouettes of birds flew home across a sky that was now magenta; and the sun was half into the water, but its reflection in the sea made it look complete.

the mauve of the dusky sky intensified, and in just a while, the biggest star had set, giving way to a thousand others.

as i skipped down the road, and reached my house, i was in for a huge shock.

my house was completely destroyed.

everything was broken. from the windows of our car, to the door of our house.

i quickly ran inside to look for my dad and my sister, praying that they were safe.

"appa! unnie!" i shouted, racing into the house, not caring how loud or disturbing i was.

my heart was pounding.

i could hear it through the house.

as i stepped into my dad's office, i spotted something liquid-like on the floor, which was soon discovered to be blood as i switched on the light.

my eyes widened in horror.

i found my father's body covered in his own blood.

i screamed loudly; it could've woken up the whole neighbourhood.

falling onto my knees, the tears bursted forth like the water from a dam.

i was kneeling in my dad's blood.

i touched his face. it was cold, but still warm.

"a...appa?"

my voice cracked.

"eu-eunmi...my sweet baby...i love you...remember that..look after yourself and your sister. be careful...arrasso? and always remember, i love you.." he said as he held my cheek.

i held his cold hand as he slowly closed his eyes.

"appa...appa...wait no...appa wait i love you too!!!! appa please...please wake up...appa...!!"

i cried as i held his hand tightly into mine.

"eunmi..."

i turned around to my sister crying. i ran up to her and hugged her tightly.

she hugged me back as we both cried in each others arms.

"i don't know mimi...i don't know.."
