Chapter 1
Rewind

I hold my pen above the blank page, pondering on what I should write.

Maybe about myself? It is a diary after all... that's what mom told me.

(Flash back)

"Take this. " she held a brown leather notebook out to me. The notebook seemed old and omitted a dusty type smell. However, the leather was shining and there wasn't a trace of dust or mold anywhere that could be seen.

"Why?" I questioned, taking the notebook from her hands before staring up at her confused.

"It's a diary! You can write when you're bored... Maybe in the plane ride..." She softly smiled at me before engulfing me in a warm hug.

"Awe.. my baby is growing up so fast! I'm going to miss you." She squealed in my ear before letting me go and grabbing onto my shoulders.

I chuckled, "mom, I'll miss you too. It's only one semester over there, it won't be that long, trust me."
I pulled her into another hug and patted her back before we finally separated.

I took the book she wanted to give me, "I'll write in this okay?" I smiled brightly.

"You better!" She laughed.

(Present)

Maybe I'll just write about myself to start it off ..

I set the pen down on the paper and began to write down what came to mind.

My full name is Crystal Melody Wood.
From my name, you can probably guess what my parents loved.

That's right.
Music.

They adore music.

I was born and raised in New York city.
My father directed Broadway musicals, while my mother stared in them.

We had the perfect life...

My parents always pushed music on me.
Mostly musicals and classical music. I hated that.

I actually hated music.

My mother forced me to have singing, acting, dancing lessons, wanting me to be a Broadway star, like her.
I didn't want to though.

I enjoyed doing those things, I really did. I just didn't like that my parents were planning my life.
