“Mommy!” The little six year old screeched grabbing the teddy bear harder. The door flew open light spread through the room filling in the shadows. The small girl’s heart was pounding and was aching, her bones rattled with fear, her mother ran to the young girls side knowing what was wrong.
This happened often, “Honey its past eleven you need sleep, all the other boys and girls are sleeping. You don’t want Mr. Sandman to keep waiting do you?” The mother’s voice was in that high pitched tone as she spoke to her daughter.
The small girl shook her head taking the blanket and pulling it over her body once more. “Wait mommy can you check for monsters?” The little girl believes in monsters like adults believe they should be given a raise.
Her mom shook her head and kissed the small girls forehead. “Darling there is no such things as monsters, but if that’s what you want I will.” The mom got up out of the squat position as walked around the small room.
The room was decorated in stars, unlike every other six year old girl’s room hers was all about stars instead of Barbies. She disliked the color pink no pink was in her room only blues, purples any cool color you could think about.
Stick on stars roamed the walls and the ceiling of the room letting their small glow splatter light here and there when the door would close. When Darkness would consume the room they shined their brightest but in the end they did not do their job.
Her mother had gotten the stars to help with her daughter’s fear of the dark, sure she was six but soon she would be seven then eight. It was time for her to grow out of that stage a little.
At some point in everyone’s life they were afraid of the dark, and few step out of that phase. While others stay put and face it that they will never be able to feel the coziness of the darkness.
The mother walked to the closet a small squeal from fright came from the small girls’ mouth. The mom pushed the door open revealing clothes, shoes, and lost toy that were shoved in there.
“See nothing is in there honey.” Shoving her hand through the clothes and pushing them aside. She showed the frightened girl that there was truly nothing that could hurt her in the closet.
The little child did not believe what her mother had said; she knew that once her mother left they would come back and taunt her. Their whispers would be heard again and the spine chilling laughs would crack their way through the walls of her small bedroom.
The mom walked over to the bed looking under it, dust and old toys scattered the floor, again nothing. “Nothing here, now get some sleep little burger you’ve got school tomorrow.” The mother kissed the child’s head and gave the Teddy bear a squeeze. “I love you honey.” Her mother began to walk out.
“No wait mommy-” The girl began to shake again her palms got sweaty and the hair on her neck stood up.
“No butts get some sleep, I did a check. There is nothing but Mrs. Beery I here other than you and me. I love you I’ll see you in the morning.” Her mother’s voice was not rude but sweat and gentle.
“Love you too.” The girl whispered as the door began to shut. The light being sucked away, a blanket of new darkness was found.
The girl looked around only silhouettes of dressers and toys were seen to older people but not to her. She saw what lid under the desk, what played with the toys when she wasn’t looking. She saw the shadows that lingered on the wall that seemed to teleport to other walls.
Her small head turned to the closet, that’s where he hung out. She grasped her teddy bear in her small hand, her eyes burned aching for sleep but she did not let them win.
She would not fall asleep when a monster was watching her.
With the shut of her eyes the closet door opened, not a noise coming from it. She opened her eyes slightly and what she saw frightened her.
It was no longer dark in her room, but it was pitch black. Not even the outlines of the door out of her room could be seen, nothing but pitch black.
Her heart was pounding it felt as if it wanted out of her body. Breathing heavily she grabbed her teddy bear and got to the edge of her bed.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” A spine chilling murmur whispered behind her making her want to scream but noting came out.
The girl turned around only to see nothing. The man talked again, “You’re not asleep yet?” The voice sounded amused the air seemed thick and it was getting hard to breath for the six year old. “I can wait.” His voice seemed to disappear.
The girl scooted back to the head of her bed. Her teddy pulled close to her chest. The stars on the ceiling did nothing, nothing helped.
“Go to sleep, nothing will happen.” His voice sounded close like he was standing right beside her bed watching her every move.
“Yet”
