1 month later....... day by day goes by & Aunt Claire just hates me. When Lauren or I do something that she calls wrong she beats us. She told me that if I told anybody she would kill me. I still believe her. She even lets the boy's do whatever they want like drink beers, smoke cigarettes, & hit other kids including Lauren & I.
This morning we had stale bread & expired orange juice. Aunt Claire blames us for not having money to buy decent food. She got so mad she took me down in the basement & tied me up on a bed with no mattress. She said you & your sister put me in debt cause yall cost EXTRA money. She made me stay down their till morning, then she woke me up by pouring cold water on me. I jumped she untied me & slapped me five times across the face. I get up & the only person I can think about is Lauren. I race to our room & find her on the floor crying........( find out what happened in chapter 4)
