Secrets: Unfolded

Prologue

"She didn't do it," I said.My mind was in a haze, nothing was making sense, but I was certain, she couldn't have done it, not my sister, she was NOT a killer.

"That's not up to you to decide, Ms. Maverick." said the detective, Mr. Henderson or something, I really wasn't paying attention. My mind was more focused at the view behind him, through the window, where I could see the woods or forest, whatever it was.
Realising my hazy state of mind,  the detective cleared his throat, trying to get my attention. He, however, succeeded. I sighed and said, "Say it again."

The detective sighed, but continued, "On January 12th, 2018, In his house in Hawkins, Indiana, Mr. David Robbins, a renowned businessman, was brutally stabbed to death. And..."

"And my sister is the killer? My sister killed her husband? that's what you're saying?" I spat, not being able to control my anger.
"Now, no one is saying that," said Detective Henderson, I could feel the sympathy in his voice. He continued, "Yes, your sister, Mrs. Kelsi Robbins is our prime suspect, but because of her present condition, we thought it would be better to not bother her with all these."

"We? Who's we? you're telling me that you're not taking your prime suspect in custody?"

"We is all of us, Ms. Maverick, the police, the lawyers, the doctors. And she was taken into custody, but as we told you, she doesn't remember anything, she is unstable, Ms. Maverick, so we had to agree to give her medical support, she's now in an asylum, undergoing treatment." This whole thing stinks to holy hell, I thought to myself. Then asked, "So is she the murderer or not?"

"That is the most likely thing. We found her fingerprints on the murder weapon, we have witnesses who saw her at the crime scene, we have motive..."

"Wait, what's the motive?" I interrupted. For the love of me, I couldn't find any reason why Kelsi would kill David. They were a beautiful couple. They were a couple who everyone else were jealous of. They never fought or anything, maybe that's why this happened. They were too perfect.
The detective said, "it seems that Mr. Robbins was having an affair." Wow, really? David? I did not see this coming. "Are you sure about that?" I asked. The detective replied, "yes, he had an affair with this woman named Carly Matthews. Mrs. Robbins found out, they argued, and in the heat of the argument, She just grabbed the kitchen knife and stabbed him." Now this made sense, anyone can be blinded by anger and commit murder. but not in this case, not Kelsi. Kelsi is not a murderer. I sighed and asked, "Looks like you've got it all figured out, what do you need me for?" Detective Henderson smiled, i bet he was thinking, 'now we're talking.' He said, "Well, Mrs. Robbins is unstable. So we still don't know any of this for sure. And she can't testify in court, So we're in a difficult situation. And this is where you come in, you are the legal guardian of the children of your sister in their parents' absence. So it's better if you take care of them. Or they'll just have to be in foster care. And you are the heir to your sister's money and property. So you can live in her house and look after the children without spending any money. What do you think?"

What did i think? My sister is everything I have. I have to fight for her. I have to prove her innocence. I have to stay here and look after her children. Even if that means leaving my perfect little life behind. Even if that means sacrificing my work, my normal life and everything I own. She was my sister, her children were my responsibility. So I took a deep breath in and said, "Yes". "Very well, then. it's settled." said Detective Henderson. I looked out the window, it was getting dark, much like my life. My life was about to turn upside down, but I was not the one to give up. Kelsi was being framed, for a crime she didn't commit and I had to reveal the truth, unfolding the secrets.
