When's Dad getting home?

Ok. There's more action coming up, just wait. Keep reading. I'm very happy that you've stuck with me even this far. I know I know, the first chapter was pretty short and pretty uninteresting, but it was mostly a build up for the rest of the story. Don't blame me.

Wendy looked at the clock. It was 6:24. Surely he'd be home now. Her mum walked into the room. "Honey, I hate to do this, but it's late, and your father's not home yet. I think we will have to have supper without him."

The news sunk in. "But mum. I don't want to. It's not the same."

"Well, we're going to have to. I don't see any other option apart from starving. Would you be happy to starve instead?"

"No." There was no point arguing.

She sat down at the table. Looking across at her dad's normal spot. It made her feel cold so she turned away. Dinner was lamb. She ate in silence. Her mum tried to break the ice by telling lame jokes but stopped after she saw Wendy's unamused face.

When she was finished, she went to the kitchen with her plate. Then there was . . . Something else. It was faint, but she heard it. She moved to the front door. A envelope. What's it doing here? Wendy thought. She picked it up. Their was no address. No address? Someone must if slipped it under the door...

She knew it was probably not her business, but she was overcome by an urge to read it. Her curiosity won, and she opened the letter.

To anyone who may be concerned.

Mr Halter is will be working for longer then usual. Please do not worry about him.

It wasn't signed. That was odd. The whole letter was odd. But why? Whoever wrote the letter was very vague.

Yes this chapter was short, but it had to be. It was like a kind of chapter to fill you in and prepare for the next. Ok, time to go write more. Bye!
