I stand in front of the sliding back door that led to the backyard pool. I look down at my bikini- also part of the bet- and take a deep breath.
"Say hi for the viral video!" Rowan says while holding her iPhone up to me. I glare at the camera lens before covering it with my palm.
"No. This was not part of the dare."
"You'll end up on our YouTube channel either way," Sky says with a smirk, also holding her phone up to film me.
"Whatever," I mutter, rolling my eyes. "Five minutes, right?" I ask.
"Yep."
I open the sliding door, listening to the howling wind, rolling thunder, and the patter of the rain. It's now or never. I take a breath, a dash out side towards the pool. Freezing rain pelts my back, sending shivers down my spine. I close my eyes and take one last breath before diving into the water.
Calmness engulfs me as the silence surrounds me. I open my eyes, looking towards the surface. I want to stay down here, away from everything, but a pain in my chest reminds me I can't stay down here forever.
I break the surface, gasping for air. I look up and frown. Clouds swirled, and lightening danced in between the clouds to the thundering music.
"Ali, you can leave now. Ali! Alice, the five minutes are up! Alice Maley Sage!"
I'm faintly aware of voices calling my name, but I'm too hypnotized by the blue lighting. Everything slows down, and I'm frozen in place. Slowly, lightning starts to reach out towards me. Let it happen a voice in my head whispers. I close my eyes, and then... nothing.
