It took Maybellene forever to get ready.

I couldn't believe she took that long just to wear a pair of white jean shorts and a strapless top.

She looked beautiful though.
I mean, I could dress up casual and look like a homeless guy's prostitute daughter. Maybe worse.

Maybellene was a beauty. No, not that word. She was more than that.
At times I honestly wondered how we even came to be best friends. Two girls from different social groups.

My ugly duckling, nerd self and her smarty pants, beauty nerd self.

Yup, you guessed it.

My best friend had the package.

Her hair was down just above her shoulders. She looked like a model I swear.

And her legs looked so long. And her shorts hugged her waist -

"Can you stop checking me out? Just tell me you're lesbian or something so I can move out" she snapped

Wow, someone was having an attitude.

"Well you can't blame me for being single for the past few years since high school" I said.

She glared at me.

"I may have developed a crush on you" I said winking as I made my way past her.

She suddenly looked terrified. And threatened for me to take my eyes off of her before she sliced my poor reproductive organs

I burst out laughing until I doubled over the floor with both hands still on my stomach.

"You s-should h-h-ave seen your face!" I laughed pointing at her.

She glared at me and then I stopped. Immediately.

She muttered something about how our friendship was going to end soon.
But that was Maybellene Clark, casually threatening our friendship when we were obviously inseperable.

We have had fights, but they were the most childish fights ever.
We fought about the kind of clothes we wanted for each other, and we even fought over the tv remote.
And that was exactly what brought us to where we are now.

"I'll call mum first" I said before we could leave.

Picking up my phone from the back pocket of my jeans I dialed my mum's number.

"Hello Sunshine" she chirped.

"Hey mum, I won't be in today" I informed her.

"Is there something wrong?" she asked, and I could almost feel her concern from where I was.

"No mum, just spending some time with May. Tell Reece I can't make it" I said.

"Will do honey"

"Oh, and kiss dad for me" I finally said before I hung up.

Although, my parents lived in New York, I never grew out of missing them each time I spent away from them.

When my brother, Reece, and I were in high school, my parents never left us alone even though they were New York's best lawyers.

Family time was quality time. It was a priority and had to be done.

After my brother and I graduated from the University of Law, Reece and I took over my parent's law firm, and eventually Reece became New York's 'bachelor millionaire'.

Reece was tall, with grey eyes and brown hair. He was pretty muscular, and definitely got my father's good looks but he was the annoyingest bum ever.

I was totally opposite taking in after my mum's green eyes and her brunette hair. I was known as the 'quiet' one in our family.

The mall was quite empty. Not plenty of people decided to do shopping today I guessed.

Maybellene dragged me from store to store for five whole hours and my feet were already sore.

I had tried on so many pieces of clothing.

From office outfits, to party dresses, to ball gowns, to casual outfits. And to say I was tired was an understatement, I was literally about to give up life.

My stomach made a silent growl.

"May I'm hungry" I whined,

She stopped and turned to me, letting out a sigh,

"Me too" she smiled.

We made our way down the mall to McDonald's, and placed our order.

While waiting we talked about random things.

Maybellene and I, although we both came from wealthy families and had great jobs, you would expect us to be very serious and all that but we weren't. We always acted like high school girls and always went with the simple side of life.

The sight of my meal placed in front of me made my stomach growl even louder.

Maybellene made a sour face at me and dug into her meal. Drama queen, I thought.
