Phil won't lie, Dan is mildly attractive, despite the fact that he's a total prick. Phil just wants his suit jacket back, so he draws a fireplace with some Medusa snakes climbing like ivy on the sides. Dan watches as Phil makes delicate strokes and lines, while smudging some of them together in the process. They both admire Phil's work and Dan hands him his suit jacket, and he's genuinely surprised Dan didn't throw it at him. Dan shows Phil the door, and he makes his way back through the hallways to meet up with his boss.
Dan takes Phil's drawing in his hands, and inspects it for flaws. The only flaws he can find are that his measuring is a bit off, and he forgot to sign his name. 'What a classic move, Lester.' But then, at the bottom in very small print, he sees his name, followed by his phone number and two X's.
Dan laughs, Phil actually thinks he has a chance with him? 'Cmon, have you seen me? Do I look like the type to date people like Lester? Guys, sure, but never would he date or do anything with Lester, except beat him in this competition and earn his spot at the top.' Dan thinks to himself, admiring his facial features in the reflection of his laptop screen. Nevertheless, Dan adds Phil to his contacts, in case he needs to notify Phil of something work-related. Dan didn't exactly like the guy, but he didn't want him to crash and burn either.
After work, Phil took the bus home. The bus was crowded, like usual, and the man next to him was asking for something he was never going to receive, not from him at least. He squished himself out of the crowded bus and onto the sidewalk near his parents. Yeah, Phil still lived with his parents, but he'd rather that then be living alone, supported only by his parents trust fund and no steady income in sight. He fixed himself a snack and went to his room to draw. That was something Phil always liked, drawing. He thinks that's why he likes interior design so much, because it's relatively simple, and he gets to draw the day away. He's so glad that the opportunity to compete for something that's rightfully his, with Dan. Phil doesn't think Dan's got a chance against him. The only thing he's got is good looks and the ability to draw chairs. That's all Phil saw in his office. Just chairs, drawings upon drawings of chairs. Transparent ones, chrome chairs, and even a butt chair, which he quietly laughed at. And he didn't keep his papers organized at all. "Whats up with that?" Phil thought.
The next day at work, the two boys drew to their hearts content, until they were called for a meeting in Mr. Klarks office. Mr. Klark sits under their boss, Mrs. Julian. The two of them run the company, and approve of everyone's designs and ideas. She never really liked Dan's sketches because they were all the same, chair after chair, only with paints and shape thrown into the mix to spruce things up a bit. Mr. Klark told them that this competition should be taken seriously, and explained the rules of the road.
#1. Don't steal each others designs
#2. No copying one another.
#3.) Have fun
Phil didn't understood the point of writing the third rule, of course the two of them were going to have fun! At least, that was what he was hoping, as Dan had other plans.
The spot at the 60th Annual Showcase should not be something to be tossed around between the two boys, and Dan was going to win it at all costs. He'd kill the guy if need be. Or sleep with him and convince him to forfeit. Either one would be suitable. Dan was kind of wishy-washy about this internship. He enjoyed it, and he sort of liked working, interior design just wasn't his jive. He took his internship seriously, although he was only really here to make his parents proud, and it was something that got im out of his flat and into the business world.
The boy's left Mr. Klark's office, leaving him sitting there with a pen in his hand. Dan walked back to his office, but he knew Phil was following close behind.
"What the fuck do you want?" Dan asked, turning around to face Phil.
"I-I-I'd just like to see what your working on, that's all." Phil responded, bowing his head in defeat.
"Fine, but like Mr. Klark said, no copying my work."
"No promises." Phil winked, and walked in front of him, and walking to Dan's office, leaving Dan in his tracks before quickly racing up beside him and opening the door.
"Prick." Dan whispered under his breath, but Phil could still hear him, he just didn't give it any thought.
The two of them sat in Dan's office, slumped over their work. Dan sat at his desk, and handed Phil a clipboard and a pencil. Phil didn't understand why Dan treated him like dirt. Sure, he was a few years older, but that's no reason to be a jerk. They worked until a nicely dressed business-woman came into Dan's office without knocking, and telling the two of them they had to be gone within the next 20 minutes so the janitors can clean up. They packed up their stuff and set off in the direction of the elevator. They took the ride down to the lobby floor, and Dan thought he was getting out of work and back to his flat quickly, but no, Phil wanted to have a chat.
"Did you get my message I left for you?" Phil asked.
"If by 'message' you mean phone number, then yes."
"And...?"
"And what? Phil, i'm not looking for a boyfriend right now, thanks."
Phil blushed, and then replied with, "I wasn't asking for a boyfriend, but now I know you at least thought about us. I gave my number to you in case you needed a friend. But boyfriend or 'just friends,' I'll be here if you need to talk. Bye Dan, see you Monday." He patted Dan's cheek and left the elevator without another word. Dan stood there for a second, recalling what had just happened. He soon left the elevator as well, and headed to the bus stop so he could get back to his flat. "Yeah Phil. See you Monday." Dan thought, while falling onto his bed with a sigh.
*Saturday*
Phil hated Saturday's more than any other day of the week. His parents spent the whole day baking things and drinking champagne. He never understood Satuday's at his house, why were they baking? Where do the baked goods go? He had always hoped they went to the homeless, because his parents sure weren't going to eat them, they were too concerned with keeping their figures. But then again, so was Phil, so he couldn't be so judgmental of his parent's habits.
Dan spent his Saturday in bed, doing nothing. He rang his parents and they chatted for a bit, but the conversation came to a close because they had some meeting to attend. "What else is new." Dan thought, and went back to sleep without another one.
*Sunday*
Dan didn't know what to do with himself today, so he spent his day at the park. He's always liked the park, it was a good place to think, and right about now he had something to think about. Phil. He's smarter than Dan anticipated, he's not just some scummy teenager who rides his pants too low, no, that's not Phil. Phil is intelligent, and he is pretty good at drawing and this whole interior design thing. Plus, he's mildly attractive for someone who gets on his nerves. Dan spent the rest of the day at the park, until he noticed a farmiliar cloud of black hair walk by. Phil. Dan ran home, out of breath by the time he even made it to the park water fountain.
"Whatcha' running from Dan? It's not me, is it?" Phil asked, smirking and placing a hand on Dan's upper back, trying to stable him.
"Now's not the time Phil, get lost." Dan retorted, and so he did.
Phil did get lost. Very lost. He ended up somewhere not in park boundary's, and he didin't recognize anything but himself, but even that image was getting skewed. He pulled out his phone and flipped though his minimal contact list. It consisted of his mother, his father, his grandma, and Dan. He couldn't call his mum or his dad, because they were off on some business trip until Friday, and his grandma lived in the U.S., which didin't exactly make things easy. He ended up calling Dan, and heard his screaming voice on the other end, which Phil didin't like too much.
"I already have to work with the fucker, why do I have to go pick him up? He can stay there for the rest of the night for all I care." But, being the 'positive' person that Dan is, he went to go pick Phil up from some unknown location. He had no idea what he was about to get himself into.
