Spencer's POV:
WATCHING from the balcony of the abandon hotel, I see them stumbling down the street. They don't look like what the movies made them out to be. None of their skin was rotten, and surprisingly most of them had their teeth despite being dead. Actually the only things that were different between us and them was their deathly pale skin, limp like walk, and their eyes. Their eyes were probably the saddest thing about their features, they showed no emotions. They were endless voids of emptiness. Some of them actually used to be my friends before this happen and now I'm trying to kill them before they kill me. I was snapped out of my thoughts when I caught a glimpse of those all to familiar tattered and faded purple skinny jeans. Styx Orion. Also known as my first crush in high school. He still is sexy even in his dirty, worn clothes and pale zombie skin. Two years ago when the apocalypse started he was into a zombie while we were still at school. Along with the rest of mankind as far as we know. We never travel very far from the town because we don't know how bad it is in other towns and we make due with the situation here.
"Have they left yet?" I hear Akio yell. Shaking my head realising I spaced out for the second time, I look out over the edge of the balcony again. Seeing that the street is pretty much empty except for a few stragglers"There are a few still wondering but if we go out the side door and run to the treeline then we should be safe."
Grabbing my AR-15 and the machete off the ground, I start running to the door to catch up with him. I almost make it to the stairs when I trip over a loose floorboard. I prepare myself for the impact, waiting to bust my head open. I close my eyes tightly waiting for the impact to happen, but after a few seconds of no impact I open my eyes only to realize that I was no longer falling. Looking over my shoulder I see Delaney smirking. This is not the first time she has had to save me from falling.
Me and Delaney go way back. Before all this happened people often thought we were brother and sister. And at one point I think we were closer to each other than me and my twin brother. She was the first person I told when I realized that I was gay.
Smiling over at her and mumbling out a thanks I straighten up. I continued to walk slowing my pace a little and watching my steps more carefully. When me and Delaney reached the bottom of the stairs we see Akio and Skylar, my twin brother, standing at the bottom of the stairs. There used to be more people that survived. Their names were Alexis and Johnny but one day when they were searching for food they never came back. So we can only assume the zombies got them because we only found their weapons.
"Goddamn, what took you so long? Did your clumsy ass fall again?" Sky asks as he folds his arms over his chest. Damn, he's an asshole.
"Shut the fuck up before I push you down the stairs." I retort rolling my eyes when he smirks. I shouldered him as I walked past.
I gently press my ear against the door, careful not to make any noise. I listen for the heavy footstep of zombies. When I didn't hear any I look through the small hole next to the door handle and look around slightly.
"I don't think anything is out there, but have your weapons ready just in case." I get a good grip on my machete and quickly and quietly open the old, creaky door. I glance outside then turn around and nod to Sky. We have done this enough times to make it a routine every time we go out. I run the corner of the building that is closest to the road and Sky runs to the corner that is closest to the trees. I look down the street which is now completely void of zombies. I run back over to the door and whisper very quietly that the street was clear. I look over at Skylar and see him grasp the crossbow in a tighter hold. I tense and slowly make my way to him making sure to make subtle noises with my feet to let him know that I was behind him. I glance over his shoulder to see what we were up against. He pushed me back but I caught a glimpse of the figure that had caught his eye.
Purple.
It was Styx...
