the jarring rock music from the party that reid had drunkenly escsped blared in their head as they drove down the narrow, straight road that laid out in front of them, illuminated by their headlights. the same scene of dimly lit evergreen trees lazily rolled by as they drove at a slow pace, conscious that they were assuredly intoxicated and would be punished severly if caught drunk driving, especially in their friend's borrowed rental car.

reid was sure they were almost at the trademark dead-end of the road when a jolt shuddered through the vehicle and they were brought to a screeching halt. a tall, thin-trunked, birch tree stood ahead of them, just outside the windshield.

with a sigh, reid opened up the driver's side door and carefully placed their feet on the ground of the dirt road. they unsteadily tromped around the vehicle to the front, inspecting the damage to the cheap, red-painted, plastic bumper. "shit!" they screamed. in a burst of drunken rage and confusion, reid's eyes began pooling with clear, salty tears.

they stamped their foot into the ground, kicking up some pale brown dust. they looked up, trying to adjust to the dark surroundings. they glanced from side to side, and found that there lay two paths to follow instead of the wooded end of the road. blind in the night, they bagan stumbling down the left side, into the wood.

"fuck parties," they murmured bitterly. "fuck drinking!" they kicked a stone off the path into the trees. "fuck this stupid road!" they yelled into the darkness, knowing that no one could hear them. with that, they set off down the road, stomach twisting and turning with aggravation.
