Riley's P.O.V
My mind was wondering about Heather. My pen rapidly tapped on the desk hoping to clear my writers block. My eyes ventured up to the raven haired at the front, a smile spreading across my face. My attention snapped from Alexa to the classroom door featuring two police officers; the one who spoke first was clean shaven and confident and the one following was more rouge but just as confident. They scanned around the classroom.
Their eyes focused on Alexa, whilst hers widened, the panic on her face could be easily categorized as confusion, my heart was threatening to break my ribcage. I diverted my attention to the assignment in front of me until the inevitable happened.
The lead officer turned to Alexa. "Sorry, Ma'am, we're looking for Riley Wood?"
Her body tensed up, she managed to compose herself quickly, a weak smile flickering on her lips.
She cleared her throat. "Mhm, yes. Of course. Riley's right over there." She pointed to me.
I felt the whole classroom's gazes burning a whole through my skull. My palms went sweaty as I struggled to keep a weak smile on my face. I nodded my head, packing up my things and left my desk following the two men out into the hallway.
"Can I help you officers?" I asked politely. I swear they could hear my nerves and they both turned to face me.
"Actually, this isn't about you. Your mother is in custody due to a theft allegation." The officer spoke with authority, but his voice was strangely soft at the same time.
I narrowed my brows. "Theft? What did she steal, sir?"
"Ma'am, she stole 7.3 million dollars'. Have you been contacted by her recently?"
I froze. 7.3 million dollars. Mother, I am going to fucking murder you myself. Shit, do they know she barely speaks to us? What has she told them? Fuck.
I smiled, forcefully containing the one thousand emotions flickering through my body. "Honestly officer, our mother hasn't been in the house for a while I take care of everything at home, whilst our mother takes care of our financial needs." Was that the right answer? I hope so.
He stared at me for a brief second before his gaze softened. "That's exactly what your mother said. We'll need you to come down to the station and hope you can talk some sense into your mother's situation. Your public defender will explain everything to you when we take you in." He smiled. It was a reassuring smile. Not a creepy man's smile. This officer was a genuine one and it gave me hope.
"O-okay, sorry officer. What about my sister. She's epileptic and if she has a fit I'll need to take her home." I said hoping they'd let Yas come with me for moral support, I needed some right now and Alexa was definitely out of the equation.
"Ma'am, your free to leave after you've spoken to your mother and filled in some paperwork for us. It shouldn't take too long. You'll be back in time for your last period." He chuckled, turned onto his heel and I followed in suite.
