THE BRITISH GIRL MEETS NEW YORK

Author's note:

Hey, guys! (Whoever has the heart to read this or has enough curiosity or doesn't have anything else to read, I'm talking to you!) :)

Okay, first thing's first. I'm completely a beginner at this. I've been a member of Wattpad since I don't know when, it's probably been a year already, but I've only thought of uploading this one chapter, for a starter. I've finished the first book of this story but it's still stuck in my Pages application and is currently being edited and further corrected, totally unread by other people except me and possibly two other people that I know. So forgive me if the story doesn't suit your taste or the composition itself. This is sort of a test for my writing & story-telling ability.

ANYWAY, this story is definitely, purely fictional. It's ideal, and ridiculously only possible to the imagination of one's mind. It's not in the sci-fi genre though.

And I had a hard time transferring this chapter in my Wattpad account because all the indentations were erased when I pasted it and so I had to but them all back myself but in the end, there still were no indentations so, whatever. Plus, the italic words were not italic anymore. I didn't know what to do so I just left them as they were.

Okay! Enough blabbering, Shin! You're wasting their time!

Behold the first chapter of The British Girl Meets New York and enjoy yourselves! The story's supposedly narrated in British English so I suggest you use the accent when reading. It makes it fun for me when I do it. :)

Feel free to comment, react, if you have something you see that needs correction, enlighten me. Please take it easy on me guys. Thanks!

CHAPTER ONE: WE MOVE

I sighed while looking at the only picture of my friends here in London, the only thing I treasure the most among the things I'm putting in my bag. Kate, the cheerful and happy-go-lucky girl, standing on the left-most of the picture with a grin that showed her almost-too-white set of teeth; Leah, blunt and sarcastic, yet the most protective one among us, next to Kate with her usually raised eyebrow; Jane, my best friend and the person I'm going to miss the most, was simply standing still on the rightmost with a matching simple smile; and finally, I, Dahlia Vandom, the "most boring and kill-joy, man-hater person to ever walk the earth", according to Leah, which I seriously doubt is true, is standing tall in the middle of the picture with a little smile on, hands inside each pocket of a pair of skinny jeans.

The picture was taken on my 16th birthday, which was only yesterday. And who knew that that would be the last birthday I was ever going to celebrate with them, I think, because suddenly... we're moving to bloody New York.

I haven't completely understood why but Mum has decided and when she does, there's only a tiny chance that I could change her mind.

I sighed again.

I'm absolutely going to miss them...

"Dahl? Are you ready?" Mum's voice echoed through the hallway outside my room.

I didn't answer and just stared at the picture. I didn't even tell them I was going...

"Dahlia?" Mum called again, this time, she was at my door. I looked up and only then did I realize that my eyes were wetting. I wiped them away quickly. I didn't like crying, especially in front of someone. But I couldn't ignore the heavy feeling I had in my chest. Most of which was caused by the thought of parting with my friends. I've been too dependent on them my whole life. I was used to their existence that I'm not sure how I'd live without them.
