*fast forward 10 years*
Jade had woken up at 5 am this morning. It was school picture days and her mom was finally allowing her to style her own hair. Jade always begged her mom for hair products at the store and most of the time she got a few. Norma had heard her daughter up this early and began to worry two hours later when her daughter still wasn't finished.
"Jade darling, it's mum, what's going on?"
"I seem to be a little stuck mom."
Norma stared at her daughter in awe. Her angel was beginning to grow up but she was still relieved that she needed her mom's help. Norma chuckled after she realized that Jade has been trying to get the comb out of her tangled her for the last hour.
"I guess mixing half a bottle of gel and a lot of hair spray wasn't such a good a idea, huh Jade?"
"I'm sorry mom, it's just that everyone is talking about how cute they will look. Especially this new girl Katherine. She looks like a princess and every since she came to the school Jesy and Kevin don't sit with me at lunch. Even Leigh doesn't walk home with me. She's rather walk home with Katherine. I just want to show them that I can be a beautiful princess too."
Norma felt a pain in her chest as she saw Jade's head droop down while a few tears hit the floor.
"Jade it's alright darling. You don't need any of the glamour and glitz."
"But why not? If I do maybe Leigh and Jesy will be my friends again."
"Because darling, you were born with something I bet that Katherine doesn't have. You have natural beauty. On your face and your heart. And you'll shine even more baby girl when we get this gel nest out of your hair."
Jade couldn't help but smile. She had the best mom in the world. She thought, I bet Katherine's mom isn't as cool as mine.
* an hour later at school*
Jade couldn't believe how she was going to school. Her mom had found her an outfit for a princess. A white dress with red polka dots made her feel on top of the world. What really made Jade smile from ear to ear was the red bow in her hair and the candy flavored lip gloss her mom let her wear. Jade was a little early as usual so she waited by the door of her first class. Jade was interested by the most basic things so it was quite normal for her to watch the rain drops for the past 20 minutes. Jade was brought out of her day dream when two other girls surrounded her and sat down. Jade was happy to be so close to Leigh and Jesy but didn't think they deserved her time. Jade her a loud plop sound on both her sides.
"What are these?" Jade asked in confusion.
"They're lunch bags with your favorite foods and snacks," Leigh said.
"But why? There's about 10 bags here?"
"There's 10 bags for all the lunches we missed together. For all the days we ignored you for Katherine. She's not as fun or pretty as you Jade. "
It took Jade a few minutes to realize it but her best friends were apologizing! She's been hoping for this. Her mom was right!
"Well I can't eat this all on my own girls! I can bring these home and put them in the fridge for a sleepover!"
"Yeah and then we can spend time prank calling Jordan and Kevin!"
"Jesy I aware if I hear anything more about Jordan..." Leigh yelled.
"Well then if not I'll be just fine eating!"
"I just hope this stays this way, that we won't hurt each other again, that we'll always be together," Jade said in an under confident tone.
"As long as we have food that should be easy right?"
Jade and Leigh couldn't hold in their laughter at their food loving friend. But Jade couldn't help but think that's all they needed, food and each other. Especially if they wanted to make it to the sixth grade and high school. ( they girls are in an American school system)
