Chapter 3
"Um," Harry stuttered, "hi mom and dad."
He looked generally scared and I began to question why he was so afraid of them.
"Who the hell is this?", the woman scream, pointing a shaky finger at me. I could tell by her booze breath and messy makeup that she was up late partying.
"This is Alex," Harry moved closer to me, "she needed a place to stay for the night so I invited her here."
The man stepped towards Harry and slapped him across his face, catching Harry off guard. I gasped as ran to his side.
"Don't you speak to your mother like that!", the man shouted in a booming voice that made me jump.
"Like what?", Harry shouted, rubbing his red cheek.
Boom.
Another slap.
"Don't back talk me son!", the man shouted.
Harry let out a cry as he grabbed my hand and led me to the front door.
"Harry..", I began, "I'm so sorry. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," he said, "but you have to leave."
"Leave?", I said, "Harry I don't even know where I am."
"Please go," his voice was shaky and kept cracking, "my parents will kill you."
I heard the woman shout from the kitchen, "You better have that little slut out of my god damn house Harry right now!"
I rolled my eyes and stepped out the door, "How am I supposed to get home?"
"I don't know," he said, "find a bus or something. I can't drive you, my parents don't allow me to drive. I'm really sorry."
I smiled, "Don't worry about it."
"They weren't supposed to be home," he said, tears rolling down his cheeks.
My heart literally shattered, it just kills me seeing a guy cry. I wrapped my arms around him and held him tight, "Everything will be alright, okay?"
He nodded, pulling away, "I put my number in your phone, just in case."
I smiled, "Good."
I heard heavy footsteps coming closer and I saw Harry's father behind him, "Get that little bitch out of here!"
And instead of a slap, it was a punch, right in Harrys eye.
"Harry!", I shouted as he fell to the ground.
"Please," Harry began to shut the door, "you must go. I'll see you soon."
And then he shut the door, leaving me wondering what was on the other side it.
Is this what Harry had to go through everyday? Why doesn't he tell the police? How does his parents have the guts to abuse him like that?
My head began throbbing as I walked down the unfamiliar street. Where was I supposed to go? I've never been in this side of town, and I couldn't spot a bus stop anywhere.
I sighed, and decided to walk until I found a place that was familiar to me. Then, id call my mom to pick me up. Or I could just call her right now.
I pulled out my phone and checked the time, it was 10:34 a.m, she was home. I dialed her number and it rang for a bit.
"Hello? Alex?"
"Mom," I said.
"Alex, where are you?", she said.
"I was at Harrys house, and could you come pick me up?", I pleaded.
"Alright," she said skeptically, "what's the address?"
I quickly looked at the nearby street sign and looked at the house behind me, "352 Washington street."
"You're up north?", she questioned rather than stated, "Ill be there soon, don't move."
"Thank you.", I said before I hung up.
I stuck my phone back in my pocket and decided to sit down on the stone steps behind me. I glanced at Harrys house, 2 houses away from where I was. I wondered what was going on inside, if they were still beating Harry.
My stomach hurt, but then it growled. I never did get to eat my frozen waffles.
Suddenly I saw my moms car pull up, and I was relived to see my mom in it, and she didn't look mad or upset.
I walked to the car door and began to open it, until I heard my name being called in a familiar British accent.
"Alex!"
I turned around and saw Harry running down the sidewalk with a bag full of clothes.
"Harry?", I walked towards him.
I could tell he has been crying, a lot.
"Harry, what happened? What are you doing?"
"They kicked me out.", he said in a defeated voice.
"What?", I said.
"They kicked me out," he said, "and I need a place to stay for the night."
I knew what he was asking, "Are you asking if you could stay at my house?"
He looked shy, "If that was okay with you..it will only be for one night. My parents are leaving tomorrow so I'll be back at my house."
"Um," I said, "yeah, yeah you can. That's fine."
He smiled, "Thank you so much."
I walked to the car with Harry following me. I wonder what my mom would say about all this. I opened the front door and sat down.
"You could sit in the back Harry.", I said.
He opened the door and sat down, looking awkward.
"Who's this?", my mom said, eyeing Harry.
"This is Harry," I said, "his parents kicked him out, and he needs a place to stay for the night."
"Hi," Harry waved at my mom and she waved back.
"Okay," my mom started the car, "how old are you Harry?"
"I'm 17.", he replied.
"Your British, how cool!", she said. And I could tell my mom liked him, which was a good sign.
"Yeah," he laughed, "I just moved here."
"That's awesome," she said, "and you're good friends with my daughter?"
Harry and I looked at each other, "Sort of." I silently laughed as my mom continued asking questions.
The whole car ride was full of laughter and conversation, which was the complete opposite of what I thought it would be. And before I knew it, we were at my house. And I saw my dad standing at the front door, he was looking at Harry. He looked mad.
