Part 3

As they walked through the large oak doors their hair was whipped back and they had to turn sideways so that they didn’t get anything in their eyes. Hermione’s long curly hair swayed all over the place, making her look quite witch-like; however, Draco’s hair just went into a kind of messy quiff.

They hurried towards Hagrid’s cabin so that they could find their cabin. As they approached the old house that the half-giant lived in, they saw another cabin. This cabin; however, was more like a house! Their eyes widened as they took in the amazing view. They couldn’t believe their eyes!

The “cabin” was two storeys high. The roof was perfectly laid unlike Hagrid’s and the walls weren’t bent. The walls were a dark green and it blended into the forest perfectly that the only thing that could be seen were the chimney and windows.

They trudged up to the front door and pushed it open hesitantly. When the door had been open they both stepped in and shut the door behind them. When they turned back round, to their surprise, two house elves were stood there. Hermione screamed with shock. That’s when the elves began talking.

‘Hello Master Malfoy and Mistress Granger. We are your new house elves. I’m Gabber and this is Gaffer. Master Malfoy, I am your house elf.’ Gabber finished off to let Gaffer talk and introduce herself.

‘Hello Mistress Granger and Master Malfoy. As Gabber said, I am Gaffer. We will be here to cook for you, tidy your room and do any tasks you need. Welcome to your new common room.’ Gaffer smiled and backed away with Gabber following her.

Hermione glanced at Draco before running around the common room squealing with delight. Her hair swished behind her and her laugh lit up the room brighter than the candles! She ran and jumped onto one of the sofas and laid there for a minute until Draco appeared above her.

‘You alright there?’ He chuckled as Hermione pulled a funny face. ‘Come on, let’s go look up stairs, find our bedrooms!’ He suggested with a sparkle in his eye.

Draco had never had a room to himself at Hogwarts, and since the boy’s bedroom in Slytherin was so magnificently decorated he couldn’t help but dream of how amazing his room here would look. he glanced upstairs. He could see the walls; bright green and shimmering silver, the bed; perfectly flat with the green quilt and silver pillow. He was filled with anticipation as Hermione nodded her head and stood up. Together they walked up the stairs.

When they reached the top they didn’t know who’s room was who’s so they looked at each other.

‘I’ll take this one, you take the one on the right?’ Hermione suggested, excitement clearly audible through her voice.

Hermione and Draco staggered into the rooms and both gasped.

Hermione found herself standing in the door way of a beautifully decorated Slytherin bedroom. The walls were diagonally stripped with the green and silver colours and then one wall, opposite the window and bed, had the Slytherin badge on it. She stared at the snake in amazement as she watched in slither around in the shield, sticking its tongue out every turn it took.

Draco, on the other hand, found himself in the middle of a Gryffindor bedroom. He glanced around the room and noticed that the lion on the Gryffindor badge was painted onto the wall. The walls were absolutely magnificent, in his opinion. The gold glimmered gracefully while the red stood out proud and strong. He sniffed and smelt the strong smell of perfume. He followed the scent and found a perfume collection next to her bed.

Smiling they both walked out of the rooms and nodded to each other as not to give anything away. As Draco passed Hermione he winked at her and stopped. He let his eyes follow her into her room and just as she entered he heard a scream and a laugh.

‘Oh my gosh! This is perfect! It’s just amazing!’ He heard Hermione squeal as he turned round chuckling to himself.

He entered his room and took a deep intake of breath. It was even better that he had imagined!

He stood there taking the sight in until Hermione came in and told him Gabber and Gaffer had finished their dinner.

Together they sat down in front of the fire whilst they were eating. The house elves had made the most delicious roast could imagine. The potatoes were perfectly crisped on the outside. The chicken was cooked to perfection. The gravy had no lumps in it but was still thick. There was the right amount of vegetables on the plate, all cooked perfectly with nothing burnt at all.

After they had finished their very satisfying meal it was only 8:30 so Draco suggested he teach Hermione how to play chess.

‘Yeah okay! Beware, I’m no good at all…’ Hermione replied, ashamed of there being something she could do.

‘No problem, I’m the master at it!’ Draco exclaimed proudly and jokingly. ‘Except of course Weasley’ he added quickly as Hermione glared at him. ‘He did, after all help defeat Voldemort for the first time in first year…’

Hermione smiled and went to fetch the chess board when suddenly they heard a click and in front of Hermione was Gaffer holding the chess kit. Surprised she jumped again, almost knocking the kit out of the house elf’s hands.

‘Thank you Gaffer.’ She exclaimed in an exasperated tone ‘Can you do something for me?’ she asked as an idea popped into her head. Gaffer nodded obediently and replied with: ‘Anything for Mistress Granger’

Hermione smiled ‘Okay, first, just call me Hermione, secondly, can you help me cheat in this game?’ she asked, wondering if it was against elf law for elves to help their masters cheat. To her surprise it wasn’t and she was finally seeing some hope in not embarrassing herself in front of Draco.

She stopped walking back to the common room to stop and wonder. ‘When did I, Proud Hermione granger, start worrying what people thought of me?’ as fast as the question had popped into her head, it was gone.

‘Okay! I’m ready!’ she notified Draco.

‘Brilliant. Now, it’s just like muggle chess except in this one the pieces move and break each other…’ he was cut off my Hermione…

‘Which is absolutely ludicrous!’ she exclaimed. Ever since her first year she hadn’t liked the idea of two moving “creatures” killing each other.

‘Yes, anyway, erm… where was I?’ Malfoy paused trying to remember what he had said. ‘Oh yes, the rules…’

Draco went on telling Hermione the rules and they started to play. The hour ticked by and before they knew it is was 9:45 and they had to walk up to the castle to do their rounds.
