Kayla's POV:
It hadn't been long since Belle ran off into the forest after I fucked up, but I couldn't really wait any more, and I didn't want to leave her by herself. It was starting to get much hotter as time passed, and the heat had started taking it's toll on me, considering how exhausted I was after a ten minute ride. I figured that Belle wasn't handling the heat well either, considering she was probably used to much colder temperatures than that. So, before I made my way back to the forest to find her, I passed through the cafe and grabbed two cold bottles of water from the fridge, and then started making my way to her.
Surprisingly, just as I was on my way to the forest, an unexpected friend decided to join me. I jumped slightly as I heard the farm dog, Rex, bark behind me. I turned around, slightly startled, and noticed that he was jogging towards me, with his tongue out and panting heavily from the heat. Rex was a purebred German Shepherd that my parents got for my sister a few years ago. I had never been a big dog fan, but after a few years with him, I learned to love and appreciate him, considering he was the best dog I had ever known. Happily, Rex followed me into the woods as I looked around for Belle.
It took me just a few minutes to find her. She was exactly where I thought she would be, and she didn't look any better from earlier, but I was hoping that I would be able to change that. I walked over to her and she didn't seem to notice until Rex ran over to her, and licked her hand, asking for attention. That seemed to startle her; I noticed her flinch from the sudden gesture of the dog, but soon relaxed and started petting him.
"Hey." I said quietly, trying to get her attention and without saying anything else, I sat down on the fallen tree next to her. Even though there was a nice shade, it was still pretty hot. "Thirsty?" I asked as I handed her one of the water bottles I had gotten earlier.
"Hey... and yeah, thanks." Belle whispered quietly, as she took the bottle and opened it with ease, drinking almost half of it in one go. After she seemed more refreshed, and somehow, it seemed like that sad and depressed look in her eyes from earlier, wasn't there anymore.
"Listen, I'm sorry about asking questions earlier, it really wasn't my place to ask anything." I apologised quickly, looking at Belle more closely. She was really beautiful, and I was fascinated by her blue eyes. It was rare that I found girls beautiful. Yeah, I liked having fun with them and I often thought they were hot; but I can't even remember the last time I looked at a girl's face and thought she was beautiful, or even focused on her eyes and other features. Sadly, just as I was focusing on her face, I noticed very faint, but definitely visible tear marks that had washed her make up. They were barely visible, but still visible enough for me to notice. I decided not to mention anything though, there was no need to upset Belle even more.
"I'm sorry too, I didn't mean to snap, but it happens at times." Belle said shortly and reached into her jean's pocket, pulling out a packet of cigarretes. Now, that was something I didn't see coming. "Do you smoke?" She asked plainly, opening the packet and giving me a sign to take one. I wasn't a huge smoker, especially around the farm, but if someone offered me a cigarrette, I wouldn't say no.
"Yeah, cheers!" I said as I took a fag out of the packet and put it in between my lips, while Belle did the same thing. She quickly lit hers and handed me her lighter. After I was done lightning mine, we just chilled under the cool shade without saying anything, just smoking, while the dog was sleeping on the ground.
"I'm not gonna give up you know." I said suddenly, and gave Belle a look with a slight smile. And my words were true. I still wasn't sure where I got my sudden interest in her, but I did and it was something like a goal for me to help her.
"Not gonna give up on what?" She asked, taking a drag off her cigarrete.
"Getting you back on the horse." I answered and gave her a wide smile as her eyes widened. "I don't understand what happened to you in the past, but I know that if you start riding again you'll be happy. And so I won't give up until I can help you." I said cheerfully, and took a last drag off my cigarrette, gently grabbing Belle's hand. Pulling her up from the fallen tree, I gave her a sign to follow me. "Come on!"
