"Who was that?" Megan yells as Danny stumbles in front of her, down the darkened alleyway. "He wasn't human, whatever he was. And you! You killed two men! Aren't you scared of the cops? I mean he did try to kill me, but that reason doesn't mean much!" Danny laughs quietly, but winces slightly; the streetlights illuminating his pained expression.
"That was probably one of the most unsavoury people from my past. Things like him won't stay dead for long. And believe me, the cops will never know what happened."
"Things like him? So like you, then? And why won't the cops know? That was a double homicide!" Danny stops in his tracks, turning to Megan, her white dress is now stained black.
"Things like me can kill things like you very easily, so I would recommend keeping your mouth shut, until I know it's safe. I've saved your life once. Don't make me do it again. I can protect you, but for the last couple of years my first instinct is to protect myself. If we get ambushed, you're toast. So hurry up."
"Oh my God, I'm walking besides a homicidal maniac," Megan mutters to herself. She shakes her head. "Look, you're bleeding, we need to get to a hospital. We can deal with all the other issues later." She stands in front of Danny, arms crossed, angel wings casting a shadow over his olive face and gleaming eyes.
"No hospital. My sister can do a better job. Speaking of her, we're here." Megan turns around, and is met with ladder hanging off the facade of an old, weathered apartment; Danny's hands already brushing the first rung as he begins to climb.
"No. No no no no no. I do not trust you enough to go up there. And we're not even going through a door. That's a window." Danny turns around from his vantage point halfway up the ladder, grinning.
"Of course I know it's a window, and you don't need to trust me. Just to follow me. I can assure you that this is the safest, and the only, way." Megan sighs, regretting her decision to go out tonight.
"Fine. But give me a hand." Danny offers his hand, Megan taking it. He pulls Megan up to be with him, noses almost touching. "Don't drop me," she whispers, feet resting unsteadily against the metal rung.
"I won't, I promise."

"Wow," Megan breathes, stepping through the window of the apartment. Danny slides off his shirt, wincing when the fabric touches his wound. "It's beautiful." Megan walks around, fingers brushing against the dark wood coffee table, and the millions of books situated haphazardly on various shelves. Danny laughs, throwing his bloodied shirt carelessly onto the couch.
"Yeah, this is all my sister's doing. Pretty impressive, huh?"
"Daniel Lee Nolan! I am going to kill you!" A woman storms out of the study in the tiny apartment, papers flying everywhere, filled with strange symbols. Her chocolate brown hair flows behind her, and her hazel eyes gleam dangerously. A spitting image of her brother, who smirks and raises his eyebrow.
"Speaking of the devil, Megan, this is my sister, Lillian."
"Pleasure to meet you, call me Lilly," Lilly says cheerfully, shaking a bewildered Megan's hand. "As for you, Danny, I am going to slaughter you. First things first, get your dirty shirt off the couch!"
"Relax, sis, I'm fine. She's fine as well," He says, gesturing to Megan. Lilly raises an eyebrow; both at his wound, and the girl he has with him, both covered in blood.
"I'll try to get that stain out, but I don't think there's that much hope. Black blood is so much harder to get out, especially on white. Now, my dear brother, we need to have a chat." As she drags him out of the room, she happily calls back, "There's clothes in my room, take what you need. Make yourself at home, Megan!"
