Chapter 2

-I'm Nobody's Lap Dog-

Finally. It's last period.

The day was quite boring; Nathan took Emy everywhere and tried to get some girls with her help, as well. I just stood a good distance away from them, patietly watching, not interrupting them. Surprisingly, Nathan's scheme of using my baby cousin didn't bother me at all.

"My mom called, and the principal said yes, Mr. Lanter," I assured, with my cousin in hand and Nathan behind me.

Mr. Lanter, my History teacher, narrowed his eyes suspiciously at us, trying to sense if we're lying or not. Nathan sighed dramatically, bored of this conversation. You're not helping, I mentally thought, annoyed.

Mr. Lanter rolled his eyes at him and his behavior. I don't blame him. Nathan can be immature at the most serious times.

"Okay, she may come in." I smiled, happy he finally agreed. "But she must not interrupt my class." I nodded understandingly and looked at Nathan. Giving me a quick smile, he picked up Emilia, who let go of my hand. I sighed as I felt her soft hands release my grip.

"She'll be with me," Nathan said, looking at Emilia "Right Emy?" he asked in a baby voice, kissing her chubby cheek.

While he walked to his desk with my baby cousin in his arms, I slightly shook my head with a small smile on my lips. Stalking towards my desk beside his, I stared at Nathan with admiration. Look at how he treats Emy; with love, care, and happiness.

"Okay, class. Open your books to page 314," Mr. Lanter ordered, holding his book to his face. "And Sarah, please read your essay out loud." Turning his back to the whole class with the book in his hold, he started writing on the board.

Bored already, I rested my left elbow on my desk and balanced my chin on my hand. Absent-mindedly, I banged my red pen against my history book and started to zone out.

Nathan jokes that I have an internal fight; like many mini me's having a difficult discussion about certain subjects. While my mini me's are arguing, I physically do a funny face when I zoom out. But whatever. I know he's joking and just trying to make my day a bit easier and happier.

Thinking more about Nathan, I remembered that people think we're in a serious relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend; an "item." But I disagree, because we clearly aren't. We're just best friends.

I'm a nobody when Nathan isn't with me, and that's exactly how I feel, too.

He's everything I asked for of an older brother, but I do have to admit, I am quite bipolar with him. But it's not my fault. That's how I act with him ever since he started banging girls. He's been a pervert around me, and I really don't like it. It makes me uncomfortable thinking of unnecessary and dirty thoughts. Although with his perverted mind, we still have our moments.

After yelling at him for whatever reason, I start talking sweetly to him. While I hug him tightly, I apologize for yelling at him. And of course, he eventually accepts my apology and invites me to watch a movie or hang out in my treehouse, like nothing happened.

You don't even want to know how I act when I'm on my period.

"Nay-Nay." My cousin's urgent, but mixed with whiny, voice snapped me out of my deep thoughts. She's my main priority now. Always have, always will.

From the corner of my eyes, I saw Nathan look down at Emy, smiling cutely. Handing her a pen, he ripped a blank piece of paper out of his notebook.

"Here." Nathan gave the pen and paper to Emy. "Draw," he demanded softly in her ears.

"Sweetie, do you want to use the restroom?" I asked Emy, trying to move my body closer to them as much as my desk could let me. Shaking her tiny head, she started drawing with her tongue slightly sticking out of the corner of her lips.
