It had started raining again. She turned over to the other side of the bed. It was as cold as a day in Alaska. So surely he was gone? It was weeks ago when he lay beside her caressing her kinky hair. But now, she had to braid it so she wouldn't reminisce the feel of his hands combing through it.
Okay, staying in bed wouldn't change a thing, so she stood abruptly & headed to the loo. Finding herself glued to the seat & in deep thought, she grabbed a magazine & flipped through blindly. It was him who had insisted that magazines should be put in the toilet. The one she held in her hands was a kids one; Barbie, it said. Inside it most of the stickers had been used up of course.
She flickered the switch in the passage & proceeded to the lounge. Why the house felt so empty, she had no idea, but she knew, just didn't want to think about it. The match between the Russ Champions & Yard Bulls was on at a very low volume. It felt as if he had been there watching. She scooted to his favorite couch during games. He would have lifted her up in the air now that the Yard Bulls were leading. Football was his thing & it eventually became hers...
So its all about him now? She quizzed herself. Is it going to be about him everyday? Every second of the day? She had promised herself that she wouldn't be a pathetic widow & mourn all year round. Sure, that was impossible; so she sat squarely & drowned herself in tears...

Little footsteps were heard through the door, into the passage.
"Mommy! Mommy!"
Her mother came through & climbed down the stairs. She smiled half-heartedly fearing the questions she would be asked by her daughter.
Noticing her mother she ran excitedly and hugged her tightly.
"Is he back? Is he back yet?" Sara quizzed. Her mom always wondered why five year olds had to repeat what they said twice; almost all the time.
Before Philipa could respond, Nana came to the rescue.
"Leave your mom to rest honey," she retorted, "Now come show me the Barbie Collection you were bragging about during the weekend!"
With this both of them ran upstairs leaving Philipa alone with her thoughts. She exhaled & felt temporary relief. Death was always hard to explain to children.
📗📗📗Billy Rogers had been trying her phone since morning. He was getting worried. He had overheard news about the death of Philipa's husband & he wondered how she felt. He would look for her, he swore to himself he would. They had a lot to talk about.
"Mr Rogers Sir, your lawyer is here" his secretary called from the door. A suited up young man entered with a file in his hands.
"Hope you have good news for me," Billy frowned. The lawyer settled & they began discussing.
📝📝📝Nana stood up from her crouching position & turned to look at Philipa. She dusted her gloves & stepped out of the garden.
"Darling," she gave a weak smile, "Are you going to tell her?"
Philipa sighed.
"Not yet, she won't understand. I don't want to confuse her." She stopped a mini second. "The least i can do is tell..."
Sara ran into the garden and grabbed her mama's skirt.
"Mama, you said he's coming soon!" She frowned.
"A little trip to Heaven you said!" She threw her hands in the air.
Philipa crouched and took hold of Sara's hands. Looking straight at her she said, " Darling, when people go to Heaven they don't hurry back. They become angels & start working on our behalf. So each time you feel a soft wind blowing, whisper something in the air, coz then your Daddy will hear you".
A tear dropped from her left eye as she explained to her daughter. Sara nodded and hugged her mom closely. Nana stepped in & hugged them too...
It was going to be a long year without Frank around.📝📝📝
