4. Diluted delusions

        Once upon a time the world was perfectly smooth and round, until a star appeared out of nowhere and imploded and its shards crashed into everything, and broke everything. People pointed upwards and were awed by what they thought was beautiful lights shimmering across the skies, but he knew the truth, and that's why she cried that day when he couldn't go to her.

        Even the pounding of rain against the wet earth sounded like his heartbeat, and her breath hitched every time the night flashed blue. But disappointment always followed, and rememberance, and sadness and regret. 

        He needed her to be so much closer, the same way she needed him; but it just couldn't be.
