"I'm rejecting you!"
Zander lips moved as the words were spoken, yet Hazel couldn't put two and two together.
This was the person who remembered his birthday, told out of proper etiquette yet he'd seeked him out, a ruby wrapped gift in hand with a big blue bow and jokes to filled the awkward silence.
The same person who'd he called, drunk and stupid at 2 in the morning and yet, listen to his petty complaints on life, no questions asked, only offering a ear to listen.
This was the guy that never failed to hail him on the streets, wither he was alone or with friend. It made no difference.
In Hazel life of tragedy, injustice and hardship. Zander was the sole constant ray of sunshine. They weren't friends, they weren't not. Acquainted, and Hazel had felt nothing but grateful for their random meet ups, the smile that Zander never failed to offer and the piece and warmt it felt to know that if today or tomorrow he'd were to die, at least one person would be affected by his disappearance. Would moan the loss of his life. To know that the space he filled would go empty, if only for a while.
Hazel had never asked for more. An orphan, an omega and an outcast. He knew better!
Yet, yesterday when they had cross paths. There weren't any waving of the hand, no words no sound only locked eyes and sparks.
Tiny little particles of light that shot straight through him and ignited something Hazel had long given up on. Hope!
Despite his dark skin tone, he knew the blush on his cheeks was there for all to see, bright and warm. As hot as he himself as a whole felt, heated by the flames of passion that burned under his racing heart.
The mating bound, the pull, it felt so good it hurt.
And as much as he wanted to run to his paired, it was during an official announcement. Hazel was seated at the very back and Zander sat on the podium as the heir, on the current alpha's right.
A nod of the head promised to meet again, privately. And as he went home that night, Hazel allowed himself to want. To expect more. The hope he never allowed himself to have took a mind of its own and grew so large it weighted in his chest. Never had he been so aware of the muscle that worked inside his ribcage.
How could he let it go?
Did Zander not feel the same?
Were their flash smiled and slight gestures of the hand meant nothing to him? Of course it did, he was the alpha to be, constantly surrounded by people, he had not a clue what it was like to be alone, ignored forgotten. And then, be seen.
How could Hazel let it go? He couldn't.
"No!" He Spoke firmly. Through the pain he greeted his teeth and looked straight up as his mate. His Mate! He screamed in his head, strengthening his resolve.
"You can't just reject me" He shouted, his voice echoing of the empty walls of the unused room.
"Hazel, i'm rejecting you!" Zander repeated. Words the omega did not hear as he shook his head frantically.
"No, you can't, i won't let you!" He says, closing the distance between him and his other. Sparks, like electricity running through his fingertips as it brushed across Zander skin.
"Hazel" The Alpha to be swallowed a sign as he grabbed hold of Hazel's wrist. Shutting his eyes so not to see the desperation that shone in Hazel's creamy brown pair.
