Underground Facility

Will considered what was taking place as he listened to the voices around him and how the conversation centered on a way to make his DNA a part of their own. They'd be amazed if they knew the truth, but the truth was not yet something to be revealed to them. They wouldn't understand it anyway as they lacked one human component - the very thing that made humans, human. They lacked a spirit.

They belonged now to evil. To evil, they were loyal. They didn't know grace, didn't know mercy, didn't know love. They knew only self - knew only the desire to win at something they convinced themselves they could win. They would never stop trying.

His thoughts moved to the twelve. Had they all been sealed? Only Mulder, Skinner, BJ and Sam had been sealed that he knew of and Frohike of course, but he felt there was another. Someone he'd seen only briefly through half-opened eyes as he was being dragged across the ship's deck. It was a woman. Was it her? Scully? And if so, was she sealed? If so, six were revealed now.

But did it stand to reason that only half were sealed. If Frohike, then why not Langly and Byers too? If Mulder, Scully and Skinner, why not Doggett, and what about Gibson? There were still pieces missing but yet when he thought about it, it felt complete. It felt like the time was right. It was time to begin.

As he lay there fully conscious inside where his spirit resided, the super-soldiers worked feverishly to keep him sedated. They fumbled around their intelligence, trying to understand how to connect the two chemistries.

He left the room where his body remained in a state of unconsciousness by his own choosing. He left the cold of it behind, moving freely about the facility and about the ship. Everything he saw, everything he came to understand could be a weapon of knowledge, one he could call upon to fight the future before him - before them all.

He knew he couldn't do it alone. It would take the twelve if they were to have a chance at winning this war. And winning would come only through sacrifice. Would all twelve be willing to make such a sacrifice? He didn't know. But he did know one thing. Without sacrifice, no one would survive.

Thirty Miles from the Underground Facility - Atlantic Ocean

Bill had done what he had to. Because the Navy owned the MOI research vessel, he replaced the crew of the Institute's Atlantis with some of his own crew. With the Alvin submersible aboard, he felt it wouldn't draw any attention to itself. After all, the ship often did research up and down the Atlantic coast and along various ocean shelves. This would appear no different from any past expedition. Feeling a little uneasy but trusting Dana, he sent it on ahead to the coordinates she'd given him.

Not one to jump in blindly, he'd taken the time to check the information Dana had given him. True to her word, something did appear on the satellite images beyond the Atlantic shelf. It reminded him of a wagon wheel - round in the center with spokes spaced evenly around it. Granted, it was odd and unexplainable, but he wasn't ready to admit it was alien in nature.

The most incredible evidence she presented him with were images of the ship, the USS Musgrave - images even he couldn't deny. They'd been sent by a highly reliable source inside the Coast Guard. Where'd the ship come from? It wasn't part of the fleet. In fact, its appearance was unlike any ship in service. The hull was dark and ominous looking. Zooming in on the images, a closer examination revealed a completely different design and structure. Unfortunately, with the resolution distorted at the increase in size, it was impossible to tell any more about it.

Could what Dana had been telling him all these years be true? Could there be an alien race moving towards a countdown to colonize Earth? Somehow, he couldn't believe such a wild tale. Yet, he knew Dana to be a level headed woman. She wasn't about to believe in something so outlandish if there wasn't some bit of truth in it - rational, scientific proof upholding the truth. Despite the proof staring him in the face, he was convinced that it had something to do with Mulder.
