Had I ever told anyone how much I hated summer? The Sun is unforgiving, the amount of sweat you get within 5 minutes of walking outdoors, and not to mention the longer days. Summer in G City is even worse. High rise buildings that reflects heat to the pedestrians, loud traffics that makes it even more annoying and hot for me. Yes I hate summer.
But unfortunately, my hate for summer is still not a strong enough reason for me to skip my club meeting in school. As usual, I left my house with a piece of egg sandwich in my hand to head to school. The heat today was relentless as usual. In fact, the news report this morning stated that during noon today, it would be a whopping 40 degrees celsius. Thank goodness I'll still be in the meeting room at that timing. Hurray for free aircon!
It is just as any normal days. Munching on my bread, I took a glance at my watch to see the time.
8.35am. I made a mental note. Walking to school takes about 30 minutes by foot. The meeting will start at 9:30am today. There is plenty of time for me.
As I waited for the traffic light at B Junction, I took out my phone to screen for messages. There were 3 unread messages from my Mum.
Mum: How's everything dear? (0815)
Mum: Are you able to come home this weekend? Aunt May is coming over for dinner. (0815)
Mum: Let me know when you see this okay? Love you! (0816)
Me: Sure mum! (0840)
Me: Will you be cooking my favorite sweet and sour pork? :P (0841)
Me: Love you too! I'll call you tonight! (0841)
I certainly do miss my parents, I moved to G City 3 years ago when I started school in G University. Ever since then, I hardly return home other than during festive seasons but still tried to give frequent calls home. But when the exam period came, I got so busy that I hardly even eat or sleep, let alone give my parents a call. Even now after the exams had ended, club activities took priority and I had to return to school almost everyday to help with the planning. Hence I'm so glad Aunt May is coming, I can finally go home after a god-knows how long.
"XIAO KAI, NO!" A sudden shriek from the opposite street caught my attention. A lady carrying a baby in the arms had a terrified expression as she looked onto the road.
!!!
A toddler no taller that 1 meter was running after a red ball that was rolling onto the busy road! He was so small in size, the drivers in the cars would have problem even seeing there was a human right in front! The morning rush hour meant that road was filled with impatient drivers and a fucking blue truck with no signs of stopping was heading right straight for him!
SOMEONE HELP THAT LITTLE KID!!! I stopped my thoughts...
Fuck this. I dropped the remaining bread on the floor and charged forward towards the little kid. I was feeling heroic, like Superman. I dived forward and could feel myself falling head first towards the direction of the kid. My first instinct is to push him out of the way. But well, I guess those scenes looked easier in movies and dramas...
I vaguely remember landing right in front of the kid, right on that red ball he was chasing. I could remember that his face was shocked. I could remember turning to the side and seeing the blue truck still coming our way. I remember gathering my strength to stand up and carry the boy. I remember trying to run to the other side of the road. I remember hearing a loud sound. I remember feeling a sharp pain somewhere on myself.
Then, I don't remember anything...
