The afternoon sunlight filtered through the curtains onto my bed. The heat was unbearable. I kicked the blanket onto the floor and stripped off the singlet I was wearing. Why is it always this hot in summer? I reached for the air conditioner's control and switched it on at full power.

As i was about to lay back down on my bed, i heard a knock on my door.

"Yin Ze, grandpa is calling for you. There's another job." That was my younger sister.

I heaved a sigh, what is it this time? I looked at the clock on my bedside, half past 2pm. I gave an annoyed groan. I was only back at 6am just now from the previous job and now there's another one? Even before the summer vacation, I was made to juggle school and work. But ever since my long awaited summer vacation started, I was made to go out for assignments  every other day. It's as though my job had tripled. What? Are spirits more active in Summer too? When can I ever get to rest?

"Yin Ze. It's urgent." The knocking continued.

"Right, right. I'm coming..." i replied, feeling annoyed.

I grab my singlet from the floor and put it on again. Offed the air conditioner and dragged myself out of the room.

"Yin Ze, great job last night." My grandpa said as I entered his room.

"I know you only came back this morning but... Right now we have an issue." He continued as I knelt down on the cushion in front of him. His face looking more solemn than usual.

"What kind of issue?" I perked my brow. In Yin Ze's dictionary, an urgent case constituted either a lost soul or a vengeful spirit, it was rare to see grandpa so serious.

"G University Hospital." Grandpa replied, "I sense something weird there. It's different from what we had ever encountered before."

"And you want me to check it out?"

"Yes. But not alone. I'm sending Mei Ling there as well."

"Alright. Any key points I... We should look out for?" I questioned. This was an interesting situation. Something that even grandpa had never encountered before. I am rather curious to know what it was.

"I'm afraid I can't give you a definite answer, Yin Ze. We don't know what we are dealing with. If you encounter it, approach with care, do not act on impulse, and retreat if necessary. And do protect Mei Ling. She's new to this." Grandpa warned.

"I understand. I shall leave for preparation now." I replied, gave a bow of respect before i left the room.

"Please be careful."

I truly respected that old man. Spiritual powers had been passed down for generations to male heir of my family. As such, we carry out the role to help transcend lost souls or spirits, and occasionally deal with evil and vengeful ones. It is never easy to be in this sort of business. The amount of energy and positivity you need was tremendous. The disturbing things that could never be unseen. From what I heard, Grandpa had been doing this since he was 11. He was a prodigy of the family and he did it till his legs gave out. Even so, he still continued to monitot the situation and provided advice to the rest of us.

Personally, I do not hate what I was doing. I just do not have the passion to do it as dedicated as grandpa or dad. To me, it was more of a sense of responsibility. Being able to see and sense spirits since young had affected me one way or another. I came to learn later that I was special. Although grandpa and dad could sense and communicate with spirits, they could not see them. They could not see what I could and could not understand my fears. They scared me when I was young, but eventually i grew used to them. Because I guess eventually, I came to realise that humans were actually scarier than spirits.
