Chapter 4: Family Dinner

'Thanks for driving.' I said getting ready to get out of this car. The whole ride was quite fun, but my heart was just pounding so fast like nuts. 

One of the most popular boys at our school was driving for the most boring girl! Someone come and punch me.

'Aren't you suppose to kiss me goodbye?' Haze said teasingly.

'You are not kissing that jerk.' I heard a voice said.

'Aw... Ash, you ruined the best part.' Ash said complaining.

'Get lost!' Ash said.

By the way, there's a family meeting with the Warrens tonight, I still can't imagine, that we will be having two men in our small little house.

'I'm home~!' I called from the door, with Ash following behind me.

'Hi, sweetie!' Mom called from the Kitchen. 'Do you want to help me in the kitchen? Hey, Ashton. How was school?'

'Hi, Mom. The school was great.' Ash answered in the most polite tone.

'That's nice.' Mom said.

'I'll help...' I answered quietly. Ash went to watch TV.

'Oh? I thought you liked to cook, Selena?' Mom asked a little worried.

'I got in a fight today...' I said walking in the kitchen. I can hear Sponge Bob music coming from the living room.

I'm going to tell the guys that the leader of the Black Eagles likes to watch Sponge Bob!

'Cass? Or that Japanese young girl you told me about? You can tell me about it, but if you want to you don't have to...'

'I got in a fight with a boy.'

'Really? Who dares to hurt my baby!  Selena, listen to me, I've argued with your dad before, but we've always learned to love and care for each other again. You see, life is not easy. You are just like your father; you're scared to face hard things. You are scared to be hurt.  You don't have to be scared of boys because I know you will find the right one that's meant for you! Cheer up now. Don't let a little fight bother you. And... Oh! Who is he?'

'He's one of Ashton's buddies...' I said. 

It was since so long has mom talked about dad. Doesn't she miss him? I just can't ask her...

'Well, that's pretty good. That friend of Ashton can come over whenever he wants to. How about tonight?'

'No! Never!' I said running off to my room. 'I hate boys!'

I fell flat on my bed, wishing for someone to comfort me, but also wanting to be alone.

'You know what, you have a good mother.' I heard my door open and close.'I like your mother, and I hope you'll like my dad, he is a good guy you know?'

'Ash, please leave alone.' I tried to sound firm, but I couldn't help from choking on every word. He put his arms around me, and I felt comfort, it was warm. Is this what older brothers are like?

'I'd always wished for a younger sister. And I'm glad to have a nice mother like her.' Ash said quietly. 'Come on baby sister, time for dinner now.'

'Okay, I'll redo my makeups. I'm sure I look like a monster right now.' I said, and he left. 

I guess brothers are not that bad, but I still hate boys!

'Selena~!' Mom calls from downstairs.

'Okay, I'm coming.' I combed through my dark brown wavy hair.

Grandma told me that dad had curly hair too. Well, I better pay attention to my new Pa, it's so hard though...
