Story draft #1

"I have no idea what to write to her," Andy Red sighed and put his head in his hands. The gold pen clattered to the floor. Kelly stood next to Andy, fidgeting and biting her lip. She picked the pen up and gave it back to Andy.

"Thanks, Kelly." He smiled at her.

"So, How's the note going?" Kelly inquired, leaning over Andy's shoulder.

"Terribly," he said with a sigh and shook his head. "It's no good, Kelly." Kelly took the piece of paper from him and read it:

Dear Ms Hunter,

My friend, Kelly Jenkins, mentioned to me that you were looking for a partner in your business. I have lived in New York for two years and found out about your work and I am very interested in working with you. I will accept any pay.

Please consider employing me.

Andy Red.

"That's a really good letter, Andy!" Kelly cried encouragingly. "I'll give it to Avery today."

"Thank you so much, Kelly!" Andy hugged her and she walked out of the study door.

Bailie looked over the neatly written note then looked over at Kelly, who was standing in the middle of the room looking awkward. "thank you for giving me the note, Kelly," Bailie said with a warm smile. "Tell Mr. Red to be here at 4:30 for an interview."

Kelly nodded and walked out of the door. Bailie stretched out on the sofa and sighed. Being a private detective gave her so much power.

Andy nervously stood outside of the door labelled 'Hunter private detective' and knocked. A voice called from inside "Come in, Mr. Red," Andy slowly opened the door, feeling as though he was walking to his death. The woman was dressed plainly but smartly; she clearly had enough money to live comfortably. Her hair was an odd shade of chestnut that looked red in the light but almost black in normal light but the oddest thing about her appearance was her striking purple eyes. Andy quickly snuck a glance at her eyes but looked away, embarrassed when he saw that he had been caught.

"Don't be embarrassed, Andy." She said calmly. "I have a genetic mutation I got from my mother called Alexandria's genesis. It's harmless and not contagious." She finished.

Andy stared in wonder. "That's amazing!"

"Everyone says that." She rolled her eyes.

Andy turned red. "S-sorry." He was worried that that would affect his chance of her employing him now.

"It's not going to affect your chances, Andy," she said with a slight chuckle.

Andy took a double take. "How? H-how did you do that?" He was amazed.

"I thought it was obvious." She said, "You turned red after you complimented my eyes and you stuttered and you also looked sheepish." She said it all as though she did it every day.
