The Case of The Aiken Basin

By Bailie Hunter

On Saturday, a young lady named Amelia Harrington, who wanted my help. She came to me in a state of nervous collapse and just before she got through my door, she yelled "Murder, Ms. Hunter! Murder!" and then she fainted straight onto the settee.

I poured her some strong tea as soon as she came around and I waited patiently for her to tell me her story.

"I apologise, Ms. Hunter, for my dramatic entry but something extremely dreadful has happened." She breathed heavily, calming herself. "Last night, my Brother, Marcus smith, was murdered." She started shaking and was on the verge of a panic attack when I put my hand soothingly on her shoulder and she slowly went back to normal.

"Is there any indication of how he met his death?" I asked.

"Not much, Ms. Not much," she said sadly.

"Could I have the little that is available, please?" I inquired, hoping that the police could at least tell the method of death.

"All that was there was a small stab wound to the chest,"

I sighed. At least the idiots knew how he died.

"Hmm... interesting," I said slowly. "was there anything else?" I added.

"Well, my- my best friend, Kai, saw her Dad arguing with my brother- I don't know if it has any relevance at all but I thought it could be of note," Amelia looked desperate.

"I will try and solve this case to the best of my ability," I said to the unlucky woman sitting in front of me.

Amelia Harrington stood up and left my office. As she did I sat heavily in my blue armchair for what appeared to be an extremely interesting case.

For one night I sat in my armchair thinking over the mystery that surrounded this case. In the morning I decided that the only thing to do would be to go check out the scene of the crime.

As I drove to the new forest- the crime scene- on my Triumph Street Scrambler, my pride and joy, I saw some magpies fly in a flock, seven as I recall. When I reached my destination, I spoke to the local officer and he said I could have access to everything: files, interviews, the body. Everything.
