It had been a week since Taylor’s hell of a first day, and things hadn’t gotten any easier. She hadn’t managed to make a single friend, and the way she was going she didn’t think she ever would. Taylor knew that it was going to be hard, but she felt like she was getting nowhere.
Her last class of the day was her baking class; definitely her favourite. She knew once she was finished school she wanted to open her own bakery. Maybe not even a bakery. Maybe a cupcake shop, or even a pastry shop… or she could make huge, extravagant cakes with perfect little details that people would adore. The possibilities were endless, and those thoughts helped Taylor get through each day. One day she would have her dream and it wouldn’t matter what she did today. All that mattered right now was her future.
Taylor sat quietly in the back of the room, planning out a cupcake recipe for her first assessment piece when some girls started walking towards her. She didn’t notice at first; she was so consumed in her work that it wasn’t until she heard the cough in front of her that she dropped her pen, looking up at the three girls, a little startled.
“Oh um… hi…” Taylor wasn’t sure what to say; she was actually quite intimidated now she recognised one of the girls. It was the same girl who tripped her on her first day… what did she want from Taylor now?
“Layla it is, right?” The girl had a wicked smirk on her face. She was definitely up to something, but Taylor suspected nothing. “It’s Taylor.” She replied, the two girls behind rolling their eyes as they were both slapped by the girl leading this… whatever it was.
“Oh right… oops?” She didn’t sound the least bit sorry, but she put on her best act. “I’m Lara and this is Katie and Dana.” She pointed to the girls, who were both now standing next to her as they gave a small wave. “Anyway I just wanted to come over and apologize for tripping you on your first day. I can get a little competitive sometimes… not that you were any competition.”
Taylor didn’t want to cause any drama, so she just nodded and accepted her apology, even though she was sure it wasn’t one hundred percent sincere. She tried to see the best in people, and although she didn’t have a great feeling about these girls, they were the first to actually talk to her. “Oh yeah… I’m just clumsy, that’s all.” She shrugged it off and hoped that was enough to show she wasn’t holding any hard feelings over it.
“Right. So there’s this party tonight, do you think you’re up for it Taylor?” Taylor really wasn’t into parties whatsoever. She could think of so many other, more enjoyable things she could do with her time. She was tempted to say no, but she wanted to fit in. It wasn’t fun being an outsider, so maybe it would do her some good to let her hair down and have a little fun?
“Sure.” Lara was taken by surprise when Taylor accepted so easily. She was certain this girl would be much harder to crack, but Taylor was making her job a whole lot easier. She knew exactly how to show Taylor who was boss around here. Taylor had done absolutely nothing to her, but Lara couldn’t help but see Taylor as a target; someone new to mess around with.
“Great! I’ll text you the deets and we’ll see you tonight?” Lara still had the same, conniving smirk on her face that Taylor had become completely oblivious to. Maybe it was the fact she wanted to like Lara. She wanted a friend so badly that she was completely unaware of Lara’s real intentions. “But you don’t have my number…” Taylor added quickly, confused.
“Oh honey trust me, I know everyone’s number. Don’t you worry, princess! See you tonight!” She pranced off back outside the classroom, towards where her boyfriend Harry had been watching through the window for a short time. Taylor followed soon behind as the rest of the class cleared out. Instead of heading to the library like she had for the last couple of days after school, she decided to go straight home. She knew this party could either make her or break her, so she couldn’t turn up looking like a mess. She had to make a real first impression.
Lara hadn’t taken her devious eyes off Taylor as she watched her leave the school. “You’re up to something…” Harry stated as Lara just brushed it off. “Oh Harry darling, lighten up. This will befun.” She wrapped her arms around him protectively, as if she was marking her territory. Harry had never understood Lara’s kind of fun, but he wasn’t bothered. She was a bitch and she knew it. Even he knew it. Plus he would be lying if he said he wasn’t interested to see how far Lara would gothis time…
