I am not crazy. This I know for sure.
I've never gone to an insane asylum, and I don't use glasses.
So why was it that I could see this girl as plain as day, and everyone else couldn't?
Okay, here's how this day started.
Woke up, brushed my teeth, walked to school-the usual. Met up with Danny, Luke, and Jay on the way.
Classes passed, and it was basically just a usual school day here at Greenwood High-except for the fact that during 4th period there were murmurs of a new student. Now, new students barely came to this school, considering that we lived in the dreary town of Tiny Woods, Indiana. So this was a big thing.
Once the lunch bell rang, I went to go meet with my group at our table. Luke asked, "Dude, have you seen the new girl?" He looked towards me, ruffling his light brown, blonde-streaked hair. I shook my head, mouth full of ham sandwich. Jay scoffed. "How can you not? She's been the talk of the school all day. It was like me when I first transferred here." Jay, or Jayna, transferred here back in freshman year from Los Angeles, California. When Danny, Luke, and I first met her, she was wearing a Cali shirt, short-shorts, and Nikes with knee socks. It's junior year, and now she's dressed in a beanie, black skinny jeans, black Converse high-tops, and her signature purple hoodie, clutching her skateboard. "What's wrong with her?" I asked.
"She's, uh... different?" Danny tried.
"Weird?" Luke supplied.
"Kind of odd...?" Jay replied.
"Well, thattotallyclearsitup-"
The bell rang, and students swarmed through the cafeteria, running to their individual classes.
"You'll see for yourself in 6th period. I think she has that class with you. Later!" Jay gave me a two-fingered salute, threw her skateboard down on the ground, and skated out of the cafeteria, a teacher startingtochase her. "Yeah... good luck, Mitchell. You're gonna need it." Danny said and waved, walking out of the cafeteria with Luke, who waggled his fingers at me. I rolled my eyes. What could be so bad about this girl?
Walking to AP English, I stuffed my hands in my pockets and whistled, looking up at the ceiling and not having a care in the world. Not looking, I bumped into someone. "Jeez! Sorry, um...?" I hadn't seen this girl before. Was she the new kid? Straight black-brown hair, brown eyes. Her eyes were filled with panic, like the sound of anyone talking to her scared her. I heard her swallow, then give me an apologetic smile, and run off with her stuff to her class.
I felt bad. Was she a mute? I brushed it off, and kept walking. I walked to 5th period and sat down in my seat. I didn't need much. Written on the board was 'free period' which meant all we had to do was write stories, which was fine enough for me. "Hi Miss Leila!" I greeted the middle-aged woman, and she smiled and said, "Hello, Mitchell! What are thinking of writing about today?"
"Not sure yet, still trying to figure it out."
"Mm, writer's block? I know how it feels. Good luck! Oh, Brendon, sit down! Ryan, get to work!" She yelled at a two kids, one dark-haired standing on a desk, making faces, and the other with long-short hair laughing at him, clutching his stomach.
I sat in that class, not thinking about writing, but about the girl I had bumped into earlier. Next period, I'll see what all the fuss is about.
The bell rang, and my next class was P.E. I looked down at the desk, and instead of a story or words written on it, there was a drawing of a head, neck up, with flowy, wavy hair, but she was crying. The thing was, the girl had no face. I wasn't one for knowing how to draw, but I didn't scrap the drawing. Miss Leila walked over after telling a girl named Hayley to quit singing out loud. "Oh... Mitchell, that's a nice drawing, but this is English class." I chuckled. "I know. Heh, don't even know where it came from. Have a nice day, Miss Leila!" I shoved the drawing in my pocket and I walked out of the classroom, to the guys' locker room.
I opened my locker and pulled out my uniform, beginning to change. I heard laughter, and a guy named Alex saying, "Dude, what's wrong with her?"
Another guy named Victor said, "I know, man. When I first saw her, my jaw dropped."
I joined in the conversation after finishing."What's up, guys?"
"Oh god, Cameron. It's the new girl. Have you seen her?" Alex asked me.
"Yeah, I bumped into her in the hallway earlier. Seems nice. Why?"
"Mitchell, are you blind?" Vic asked me.
"Mitchell Cameron, I think you might need glasses. That girl is not normal."
I rolled my eyes. "She looks fine. What's wrong with her?"
Alex put a hand up to his forehead and sighed. Pulling me by the wrist, he dragged me out onto the track and field. "See her over there?" He pointed to the girls, who were doing stretches.
There she was, the familiar panic look on her face. She was a bit further away from the rest of the girls, as if she was placed there for a reason, like she had a disability or something.
"I don't understand. What's wrong with her?!" I yelled, loud enough for the girls to turn around and her to blush, then look down at the floor as the rest of the girls stared at her. Fuck.
"Dude... she has no face."

hope you guys liked it! it was probably some of the longest typing i'll ever do, 1000 words exactly! (not counting this note)
i know it all seems kind of confusing and weird right now, but it'll make more sense in the next few chapters, promise!
also: as far as i know/have looked up, there is no city in indiana called tiny woods and while there could be a greenwood high, i'm not referencing any high schools. everything here is fictional :)
