The first thing that Erin and I did was sit down and hammer out the things we wanted to change about the existing list. Since we were out drinking I rummaged through my car for what felt like forever to find a note pad.
We then went through the existing list and made it more 'United States friendly' while sitting I the patio at Mac's. We cut out some of the things such as, 'ride a motorcycle' (an apparent moral ambiguity for Erin) and 'join the mile high club' (because really... The bathrooms are so small and we don't fly that often!)
While some of the things got replaced for our list, we tried to remain true to the basic essence and beauty of the original list. It was definitely beautiful, to have caught my eye and left such a yearning inside, a need even, to complete it. Billlieex is such a talented writer! We were very careful in replacing the things that we cut with tasks of similarity. Our list is as follows:
1.) Aim to be technically single for a year.
Neither of us were 100% comfortable committing to this one so we added in the 'technically.' We both decided that if 1, 2, or even 10 months into this we fell irrevocably in love with someone we wouldn't allow the list to stop is from diving in feet first.2.) Go on a proper holiday.
Meaning at least a week. Not a weekend trip.3.) Go a day without speaking. (To anyone but each other.)
Erin and I... We're talkers. Which is why we amended this particular item to allow us to at least speak to one another. This is something that will have to occur on a day off for both of us, as she is a trauma ICU nurse and I am a bartender!4.) Learn the true meaning of 'destiny'
As I said earlier, some are easy and some are hard. This is going to be one of the harder ones.5.) Finish a marathon.
During this year I am also on a quest to lose weight. To date I have lost 30 pounds. Running a marathon was one of my previous goals during the process of weight loss, and Erin was very passionate as well that we keep this one as is from the original list!6.) Donate blood.
This may not be an attainable goal for me. I am anemic and cannot go an entire year without getting a tattoo. But, hey! I am going to try!7.) Go skinny dipping.
Every male that has been privy to seeing the list goes bonkers over a few of the items. This being one of them. I cannot even tell you how many people have offered to accompany us on this outing!8.) Sleep under the stars.
One of the simpler items. But fun, nonetheless.9.) Sky diving.
The original item was bungee jumping. I have absolutely no desire to do that and Erin has already done it and didn't want to do it again. The closest substitute was sky diving and after some serious convincing I got Erin to agree to it! This may be my favorite item/ the thing I am most looking forward to!10.) Oktoberfest.
We may not make it to Germany, but we will find a suitable celebration to attend!11.) Kiss in the rain.
Easy!12.) Tennessee
Gatlinburg or Nashville?!13.) Ride a mechanical bull.
Wonder who will stay on longer?!14.) Bonfire by the beach
Or a lake at least!15.) Host a masquerade ball.
Originally it was just attend one, but no one we know throws cool events like that, so we changed it up, just a little!!!16.) Drink in Chicago
Perhaps while attending Riot Fest?! (Wishful thinking!)17.) Go to a drive in movie.
Good thing they just opened for the summer! Perfect timing!
