"Hello. Karen speaking"
"Good evening Karen, it's me Christopher. I hope this isn't a bad time to call?"
"No it's ok. How can I help you Your highness? It would have been nice if you had the decency to call me and tell me that you didn't want to do the showcase, you didn't have to ask me to dinner and make a bit show about it and flak in the end." I rattled on angrily.
"Are you done venting? You're quite the fire cracker aren't you? I apologize for the delay, I kept your card in my pocket and forgot to give it to my secretary to set something up. It's purely my fault and not as you put it I didn't invite you to dinner to show anyone anything."
"So how did you remember to call me now?" I questioned.
"Well I was just talking to a friend of mine and they said they heard you were looking for someone to showcase watches. Once again I am so sorry for forgetting about it. Don't take this as taking you for granted. I know you're on short notice but we can still discuss the showcase. But If you have already found someone to replace me, that's fine by me. I would still like to take you to dinner, think of it as making up to you because of this delay."
" I haven't found anyone as yet, we can still do dinner and discuss how I want to go about the showcase." I grudgingly agreed.
"Perfect! How about tonight? Since we are short on time and you need a quick turn around for the showcase."
"Tonight?"
"Yes. Unless you already have plans then we can push it to another day." He replied.
Karen didn't want to seem too eager, but she was running out of time and having to showcase Christopher's watch would be great for her business. There was no harm in saying yes she guessed but then again she wasn't sure if Christopher was just playing with her. Well it's too late now to say no, she waited to long and more than anything she needed this showcase to happen.
"Sure. Dinner tonight sounds great. Where do I meet you."
"How about I pick you up? Text me your address or drop a pin. I will pick you up Say around 8?"
"Let's make it 8:30."
"Alright see you then" and he hung up.
She had an hour and half to shower, get ready and mentally prepare for her showcase proposal. She was running around like a headless chicken from one room to another. She didnt know what to tackle first. She took a deep breath and decided one thing at a time. She would shower and pick out her outfit first and prep her proposal after. Rummaging through her closet she found a lovely off shoulder burgundy dress she hadn't worn in a while. She decided to pair it with shimmering gold peep toes and golden clutch.
Her heart wouldn't stop thumping, she didn't realize she was that invested or maybe it was just the man. She was quite a catch herself but getting to go on a date.. ok maybe it wasn't a date, it was just a business dinner. She was going to be in close proximity to THE CHRISTOPHER. She had to make sure she didn't blow this opportunity.
At 8:30 on the dot she heard her bell ring. Well he atleast is punctual if not anything else. Spritzing her self with her favorite Versace perfume she opened the door. The sight before her took away her breath. Suited up in a beige blazer and black pants, he looked effortlessly casual and elegant. Was she seeing right, his eyes roamed over her body and sparked. I could feel him caress me, longing for his fingers to roam as his eyes did. He cleared his throat and said "You look beautiful Fireball."
"You too." Thats the only two words that my mind could come up with. I was dumbstuck and panting, up and down there.
"Shall we?" He asked as he put his arm out.
"Yes yes" wow two words again. How am I going to pitch to him in two words. I needed to snap out of it. I was saved from making conversation when his phone rang, he listened for most part of it. Said a few terse words and hung up.
"My apologies, hopefully i wont be taking calls this evening. I am just closing a deal and working out on the final points. You know how it is."
"No need to apologize. I would have done the same. Work always comes first. If it is more convenient for you we can table this dinner for another time."
"Nice play of words Ms Karen. But I have been looking forward to this dinner all day, we aren't going to table anything." He whispered.
Did i hear right he has been looking forward to dinner with me all day. A slight spark of excitement ripped through me. Oh dinner today is definitely going to be exciting.
We reached the famed Cipriani and got escorted to our table, it was a private booth and felt like we had the restaurant to ourselves. I wonder how he managed to snag a reservation at the last minute. But i guess with power comes greater power.
"What would you like to drink?" He enquired.
"I am a whisky girl thru and thru but I wouldnt mind sharing a bottle of wine too."
"Interesting, you are full of surprises. I didnt peg you for whisky." He turned to the waiter and said "Two glasses of your finest single malt please."
"Let's just say I am not your ordinary type of woman. Always been a little different. So keeping that in mind please can you order for us, I wont be having the salad." I winked at him.
This is mortifying I am here on a business dinner and I just winked at him. I was turning beet red and covered my face with the menu hoping the ground below me would open up and throw me a time machine so that I could turn back time.
"You can stop hiding behind the menu Karen. I know you're different that is what draws me to you." He stared into my eyes as he spoke.
Dinner was eventful to say the least. I started off with my pitch and he listened intently while throwing questions my way. He nodded and typed away at his phone. I couldnt read him, I didn't know if I was doing a good job or not. By the time our starters arrived I was done and fumbling.
"Well that was a very animated and interesting pitch. Now you have done your part Karen, so let's enjoy this meal and Give me a day to get back to you."
"What! So i dont get an answer now?"
"Well would you sign up for anything without giving yourself time to think about it? However gorgeous the other party looked?"
He is flirting with me, I am gorgeous to him. Wait a second I am focusing on the wrong thing here. Focus."This is a nice place and we have great food before us. Why dont we take out mind off work and enjoy it. Let us get to know each other."
I nodded and we went about talking and joking about work and our experiences. Christopher was quiet an interesting dinner partner. I reminded myself that was all he was going to be, dinner partner.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see a woman gliding towards us, looking like she had an agenda in mind. I turned towards her and thought to myself wow she looks stunning, decked from top to bottom in brands, she oozed money and entitlement. If I batted for the other side I would be panting over her. My forehead frowned as I noticed her getting closer and closer to our table though.
