"A legend? What are you talking about Cupid?" I asked, eager to hear more

"A legend? What are you talking about Cupid?" I asked, eager to hear more.

Cupid scoops my hands together and lays a gentle kiss upon each palm; leaving trails of electricity where his lips touched. He answers hastily, "I have a friend that I have already spoken to! He is willing to help if you truly want to stay this time, but he says it has to be of your own will, not mine!"

I blush by the electrifying feeling that remains upon my skin. The attempt to refocus is nearly impossible now. "Of course, I want to stay Cupid, " I say wishing things were different, "and now that I remember, I know without a doubt there is nothing more than I have ever wanted, but how on earth could your friend possibly help us? I mean I am from the year 2018, and this is... this is-" I pause, interrupting my question because I realize I do not know what year it is. I have never asked, or at least I never remember asking.

Cupid smiles a mischievous smile before offering, "Look at the date on your paper."

"My paper?" I look down at my light-blue dress, "I have no pockets. Where could I have put my paper?"

Cupid's smile spreads across his face before seductively offering, "Maybe you should check beneath your dress."

I look down towards my exposed chest. Heat fills throughout my body as I realize Cupid knows I have it tucked away inside my bra. I clear my throat not wanting to ask how he knew and I open the paper to read the date once more, "1818! Holy crap!" I yell in shock. "I am so far from my own time! This is absurd!"

I look towards the engraving on the tree once more trying to process just how there could be any hope for Cupid and me to have a future together, "Cupid, how is your friend going to help us?"

Cupid crosses his arms and smirks, "My friend's name is, Merlin. He is quite an amazing friend, and let's just say he has a unique talent."

"Are you speaking of THE Merlin, as in, MERLIN THE WIZARD?"

Cupid covers his mouth in an attempt to hold back his laughter, "So, I take it you have heard of him?"

I throw my hands up in the air, "Well duh! Of, course!" I stop and realize it must be impossible for his friend and Merlin to be one in the same, "But, I thought he was from like the eleventh century or something?"

"Are you sure about that?" Cupid challenges mischievously.

Several moments pass as I think back to all the stories I had heard as a child. For once I wish technology was close by to confirm my suspicions, but it is impossible because I have only my memories to go by.

"You're right, Cupid. There has been stories and legends of him in different centuries, but one fact always remained the same. Merlin was a wizard that could perform magic like no other human being."

Cupid patiently waits as I put two and two together, "Merlin wasn't just a myth, was he? Merlin was real, and all the stories I heard as I child were real! Cupid, are you saying he has figured out a way to create time travel?"

Before I can respond, Cupid pulls me to his chest and kisses me with a burning passion and desire. Welcoming his embrace and need for me, I return the same love with just as much if not more.

Cupid let's go long enough to whisper seductively in my ear, "I think I am going to be married to a brilliant woman. Shall we go visit him?"

"Yes!"

*******

"As time passed, so did the stories of how the name Valentine started as well as the legend of Cupid. Some say they were a passionate couple that loved each other so much; people created their own bedtime stories and holidays in hopes of one day receiving just as much from the one they love."

"Some say, Valentine was nothing more than a holiday made up by the merchants and distributors to sell more of their products, and they used Cupid as a symbol of love and romance to bait the consumer in."

"Some say, Valentine was a man that had been killed by a terrible death, and Cupid is nothing more than a myth for lonely people to have hope that there is love in their future."

"Some love. Some hate. Some don't care either way, but in the end the one myth; the one legend that remains the same... they both represent an undying passion or love for someone."

"I will tell you this much. I used to believe all of this was nonsense. I used to believe Valentine and Cupid were nothing more than a Legend."

"You were wrong weren't you, Liandra?"

"Yes, I was, Merlin," Liandra says as she curls on top of Merlin's lap with her cup of steaming hot tea.

Merlin snickers and says sarcastically, "Finally, after all these years you admit you were wrong about something! Thank God!"

Liandra raises an eyebrow, "Don't let it get to your head, Merlin."

Merlin laughs hysterically almost spilling Liandra's tea, "Too late for that. Oh, speaking of Cupid and Valentine, would you like to visit them? They invited us over for dinner tonight."

"That will be a great idea. I just need to write down today's date on the paper and give it to Cupid's son, Eros. He is supposed to be arriving through the portal at any moment." Liandra pauses and thinks out loud, "What is today's date anyways?"

Merlin shrugs his shoulders as if the day has no importance, "It is, February 14, 2018."

"Such an amazing date, isn't it Merlin?" Liandra says as she gently kisses Merlin's narrow jawline.

Merlin stares into Liandra's rounded loving eyes and says, "I am so glad I took you that day. I love you so much Liandra."

"I love you too, Merlin. I love you too."
