For a few days, Piper had to stay in bed since her foot was too swollen and sore. She tried to walk but she had to limp. So Charity forbid her from walking until it looked better and the pain was less. Piper was less than impressed being bedridden. She hated to be in one place for far too long.
Every time that Piper tried to get out of bed and sneak away and have a little walk, Charity saw and she immediately was at her side and lectured the girl while walking her back to her bed.
After the first 4th attempt of trying to get on her feet and walk about, Charity kept catching her while she does so and made her go back to her bed. She stopped trying and just lay there, bored out of her mind with nothing to do but just lay there and sleep. Occasionally talking to her brother at times.
While she was bedridden. She had a few visitors that were not her brother. These people were Barnum himself, Charity and her two children. Anne and WD wheeler.
Charity would come in every once in a while to make sure that Piper's foot was ok, also making sure that the swelling was calming down and returning back to normal. Which it was, she made sure that piper was not attempting to walk again.
The next visitors were Charity's and Barnum's children, They loved to talk to Piper. Mainly because she was good at telling fascinating stories just like their father. That's what intrigued the girls into going to Piper's room and practically demanding her to tell them a story. Charity did scold them for being so rude but Piper didn't mind, she just laughed and complied to the children's demands and told them stories she either heard when she was little or ones she made up herself on the spot.
Barnum came in to talk to Piper when he was free from his work on running the circus. They both would talk for hours about silly little things, makung each other laugh or talk about their past.
Then there was WD. He would always make sure that Piper was comfortable. He would fluff out her pillows if it was flat and if it was uncomfortable, much to her protests. He was like a second brother to her. When Samuel wasn't there, WD was.
Last but not least was Anne. She would talk to Piper so she wouldn't be so lonely and bored while she was on bedrest. They became pretty close the past couple of weeks. Anne told Piper her and WD's past. Piper was shocked of what she heard. Anne and WD's parents were treated as if they were not human like they were dirt on the floor. They couldn't get work because of the colour of their skin. They were forced to live on the streets because they had no money. Even when they had WD and Anne, the only job they could get was to clean houses for people and even then it was little pay, not enough to get a house just for food that they can eat.
After about 4 weeks, Piper was back on her feet. The swelling had gone down considerably and she barely had any pain in her leg anymore. Piper would now always be around WD and Anne if her brother was busy with the show, he helped to set the props up also making sure everything was in place before every show.
Samuel was happy for his sister, he was over the moon when she told him that she has made friends with Anne and WD. Seeing her smile like she did when they were younger also seeing that not only Anne and WD but the whole cast of the show treat Piper like a normal person as if nothing was wrong with her. That she didn't have a disability.
Piper was walking around the building looking for her brother, she wanted to talk to him. She stopped for a seconded and listened to see if she could hear anything that was familiar to what he brother sounded like. A couple of minutes past and she continued walking until she heard those familiar footsteps walking towards her. She spun to her right and bumped into a chest. She smelt a smell she has been accustomed to her whole life.
"Hi, Sam!" Piper greeted cheerfully. Backing away from her brother's chest. Samuel chuckled and greeted her back "Hello Pipsqueak." She smiled at him and grabbed his hand and dragged him to a corner where only a bench sat at the end tightly against a wall. "Why are we here Pip?" Samuel asked, confused as to why his sister brought him to a corner. "I wanted to talk to you. We haven't spoken in ages!" she complained still dragging her brother but let go after a minute so she and he could both sit down.
