The rest of the week wasn't much better. I think Abby's afraid of me now. One day, I spotted her during lunch. I ran my fingers through my chestnut hair and locked my eyes on Abby from across the cafeteria. Now's my chance to go apologise, I thought as I saw her sit alone at our usual table.
I started to walk over to her when she saw me. She started to get up. "Wait, Abby I want to talk to you." I said, motioning for her to sit back down, which she did hesitantly. "Im really sorry about yesterday. There's just so many bottled up feelings in me. But there is no excuse for what I did, I'm sorry."
She sat quietly for what seemed like forever. For a moment I thought she might cry, or scream, or run away. But finally she spoke. "Do you want to talk about it?"
And so I spent the next hour telling her about my mom. She would occasionally nod or take a bite of her sandwich while I spoke. A small nod at "I miss her so much still after all these years," and a grunt and sip of her pop at "the police thought someone snapped her neck, but the case is still open and unsolved."
"I'm sorry, Zan, I didn't know."
"It's okay, I never told you because I didn't want it to bother you or make you feel any differently about me."
"The only thing different now is that I have this nasty boot-shaped bruise on my hand," she said with a smirk.
I smiled and hugged her lightly. "I'm sorry about that by the way, must've been these killer reflexes," I said as I flexed my muscles at her. She rolled her eyes and pretended to swoon at me. We both laughed and finished eating our lunches. I was so glad to have my Abby back.
