"I'm pregnant."
The girl avoids meeting the older boy's eyes as the words quickly slipped pass her chapped lips. It tasted like vomit. Or was it from this morning's hurling session in the bathroom? Suddenly, her black shoes looked very interesting. She crossed and uncrossed her fingers, slowly dying in the inside as she waits for a response.
Minutes ticks by and he is still silent.
They were at a park by the library, where they would often meet for their appointed tutoring hours. She liked this particular park very much. It's quiet, clean, and tucked away from the chaos that is the public. Rather than meeting up for their regular Monday sessions at the library, the girl had asked him to come here instead.
With a nervous heart, Kim Yerim has been waiting since Saturday to tell him the news.
.
"Why did you buy so many?!" The shorter girl quietly hissed when Sooyoung shows up at her front door one Saturday evening, hugging a paper bag filled with several different brands of pregnancy tests. However, her eyes immediately zeroed in on the bottle of orange juice in the older girl's hands, which she gladly takes with gratitude.
"I didn't know which one to get!"
She and Park Sooyoung first met when they were 16. Yerim considered her social circle to be close to null, while others will argue it was nonexistent. Nobody wanted to be friends with someone who spent most of her time speaking to books, so she usually kept to myself. Sooyoung, on the other hand, was a social butterfly. She was the dictionary definition of what being 'popular' had entailed: beautiful, confident, and a total bitch.
Surprisingly, the girl was just as lonely as she was.
The older girl was always the hot topic in everyone's gossip and conversation; be it in the hallways, bathrooms, or the classrooms.
They both made an unlikely friendship.
Call it accidental, but their first meeting was one she could never forget... because how could someone forget when one was dragged into a fight between two pissed-off high school girls as an innocent third party?
It was the stereotypical argument that involved a boy. She really didn't think fighting over a boy was necessary. He was the one that cheated, so it was only right to put the blame on him. If it were her, she would've cut off his—
Anyways, a girl had claimed that Sooyoung stole her long-time boyfriend, in which the taller girl refuted with a 'he-was-tired-of-flat-chested-girls-like-you' statement.
She, who was minding her own business in one of the school's hidden alcoves, accidentally overheard this (it was hard not to) and couldn't help but check out her own chest.
Nope, definitely better than flat.
Attending an all-girls school, arguments like this were bound to happen. Too much estrogen in the air would surely make anyone batshit crazy. She just didn't expect the argument to turn into a full blown catfight.
Yerim winced when Sooyoung ripped one of the girl's extensions off. She couldn't imagine how painful that would've felt.
Unknowingly, she had somehow crawled out from her rathole to enjoy the spectacle.
So... what would one bystander like her typically do in a situation like this?
"O-Ow! S-Stop fighting girls!" Yerim cried as she found herself stuck in the middle of another round of hair-grabbing.
The fight eventually ended when a passing teacher found them and tried to break the girls apart, only to end up in the tussle as well. Let's just say Teacher Moon's toupee wasn't fooling anyone. Both she and Sooyoung were sent to the principal's office.
