Chapter 25

Isadora

"I've loved you since the second I met you and I just couldn't take no for an answer in that alley." Some of the nearby customers look to him with disgust, thinking the worst, but we pay them no mind as he continues. "I've wanted to do this ever since you first touched my mind. You're just so strong and you've endured and withstood so much and are such an example to everyone we know. Do you remember that day when you said you'd see me later and I responded with 'as you wish'? Despite what you thought (and I know you did), I knew what that meant and I was being serious. I know it'll be nearly impossible, but I'll try to be worthy of your love every moment for the rest of my life. Will you, Isadora Catherine Corvus, be my wife?"

I can't say anything for a moment, too shocked by what he just asked to articulate words. I do remember when he told me 'as you wish'; at the time I was kind of hoping he was kidding, using that quote from The Princess Bride but not meaning what it meant in the movie, even though I had a feeling he wasn't, and he just confirmed it.

In the back of my mind I realize that the entire restaurant's gone silent with anticipation, but I don't care that we have an audience, instead pulling him up and crushing him against me until his laughter turns into a whimper. Apparently I squeezed just a little too tightly. But I don't care! I'm too excited right now to care.

I let go and he holds me in his arms. "Yes. Of course." Hearing those three little words he smiles the most beautiful smile I've ever seen as the restaurant erupts into applause.

.
I didn't notice the ring while he was proposing, too caught up in what was happening to pay attention, and now that we're walking down the sidewalk I take the opportunity to look at it. It's beautiful (but what could I expect, he has great taste. After all, he picked me, right?! Just kidding, I'm not full of myself, just really surprised. He picked me. The most perfect man in the world picked me)!

The center stone is a circular diamond about the size of my pinky nail (maybe slightly large than I would have preferred once upon a time, but now I can't help but think it's perfect) and circling all around it are tiny round garnets that go all the way around the gold band. It almost matches my necklace, except the diamond would have to be citrine, but I wouldn't change it for anything.

"Kitty!" I snap out of my reverie and look up just as Lin pulls my arm and steers me away from the light pole I almost walked into. He presses me against his side and I snuggle against him, enjoying his body heat as it gets cooler. "You know, before I asked you I asked Vlain for permission. I would have asked your father but... anyway, he is your great-to-the-something-power grandfather. He was ecstatic; to say the least, and kept going on about how he can't wait to be a grandpa again and how we'd have the 'most beautiful kids ever'. Direct quote."

I choke on my breath and look at him, slightly shocked by Vlain's reaction. I know he loves Lin but isn't he supposed to be... protective... or something (dad wasn't around when I became interested in boys so I don't know how he'd react exactly), maybe threaten him? And kids! Holy... I haven't even thought about that! But he's right- we'd have some gorgeous kids; I'm not conceited, but they'd have Lin as a father, making it impossible for them to be anything but the cutest things ever!

We arrive in front of the club and walk up to the door, ignoring the line of bored looking people as the bouncer lets us in without a second glance. How does this always happen? At V Amps and every single club we visited in France, we could just waltz right in as soon as soon as the bouncer saw Lin. Does he have something on his forehead that makes them let him in?

Realizing that I actually don't know him as well as I think I do and that for all I know he could be a multinational drug lord or something (you never know, no one would suspect someone with such an innocent face, and he does have tons of money), an unsettling feeling passes over me before he pulls me after him around the dance floor and up to the DJ. He nods at something Lin says and after the techno song playing ends he makes an announcement.

"Hey all you partiers, give it up for these two!" He points to us and I wave shyly as I try to stop blushing as he continues, "they just got engaged!" At this the whole club screams and I can't help but grin ear to ear as I squeeze Lin's hand and he does the same. "I'm going to play their song for them, so we're going to have a change of pace."

As Lin leads me back to the dance floor I wonder what he meant by 'our song,' I didn't know we had a song. Of course, once the song starts, I realize how much of an idiot I am for forgetting and scream along with everyone else as the song asks 'who is this irresistible creature who has an insatiable love for the dead?' "LIVING DEAD GIRL!"

We spend all night dancing together, too excited to even think about stopping.
