But Not Always

Sometimes

sometimes we look around

And wonder

What happened?

Nowadays

Herds of adults saunter hastily around

Black rings dragging down their cheeks,

As they muddle about their rushed routine,

Only to repeat the same routine Again the next day

And the day after

And again the day after that

Stuck in their ring of ceaseless, pointless tasks

What exactly changed between then and now?

Why were

The action figures were replaced by smartphones?

The books replaced by consoles?

Why did we go from

Dressing up of dolls to being dolls?

Childishly braiding hair for fun to stressful fashion?

What happened

To hearing songbirds beckoning you to rise,

Rather than the dreaded monotonous eep

To the casual white blouse

Rather than countless brand specific garments

Of course

There is nothing to say that change is purely bad

Some may see this change as marvelous, remarkably splendid,

Fantastic beyond words!

Never do we progress by keeping everything the same

But

Did we need progress that leaves us encircled pollution?

Or has it improved now with much safer and less back breaking labour?

We ignore the Echo of the past as we hanker after our ideals

The rippling image of the future reflected in our watery minds

Rarely do we think about what we could achieve

If only

We stopped Narcissistically staring at our Digital selves

And took a break

To learn about

Our surroundings
