Chapter 1

Violet walked down the street, head high.

Every once and awhile a person would pass by, but that wasn't a common occurrence in this quaint town.

It was autumn and the trees shed their leaves like a dog shedding hair. The leaves were like a light sprinkle of reds, oranges, yellows, and browns.

She took a deep breath to take in everything around her.

She smiled and continued walking.

The streets were bright with life, yet not crowded with people.

She turned right, into her favorite café. The door brushed open and she lightly shut it.

"What'll you have?" The clerk asked.

The clerk was cheery, bright, and full of personality. As though her job wasn't to stand behind a counter all day serving people.

"I'll have the usual Sarah," Violet responded trying to match her cheery personality.

Violet sat down and got onto her phone.

Sarah brought out her drink, so cheerfully it was almost dancing.

She thanked her and began to sip her warm cocoa.

A ringing sound echoed through the building. Violet looked at her phone.
