"Natalia, I need your help." Cesare strides in while I am reading to Amara I shush him and look over to see she is still sleeping peacefully.

"What is it, my love?" I close the book and place it down on the draws.

"I need your help. But whatever you hear you must not tell anyone, okay?"

"You are scaring me, what is going on?" he takes my hands and helps me to stand while guiding me away from our sleeping daughter.

"Michaletto has found a code, from someone he is close with."

"How he is illiterate."

"He can remember and copy. We have found the book but I would have you write down what we find."

"Very well" he took me to the library and we sat down. Michaletto stood in front of us

"Do you have the letter?" Michaletto handed him the letter.

"Sit" Cesare ordered and he sat on the other side of my husband, while he pulled out a mirror.

"Mirror writing?" i asked

"Yes. Each number refers to verse, then a line, then a word. A nine, that's verse nine" he opened the book and found the verse. " Another nine. That's line nine. Seven. Seventh word, line nine, verse nine" he looked closer as I dipped the quill in the ink ready to write.

"That's 'They.' A beginning." I wrote 'They' down

"Who are 'They'?" I wondered

"I wonder. 27, that's verse 27." he found the page "Line six, word three...'must'" I wrote it down

"They must..." and we worked into the night.

"...Forli. Natalia what is the message."

"The message 'They must not suspect, he will lock the cage. We must know when they will move on Forli'" I read

"A cage is for an animal or a prisoner" Michaletto stated  "So we must know who is in the cage and who is the prisoner."

"Forli. Caterina Sforza" I yawned and leaned my head on Cesare's shoulder.

"But who is the he?"

"I could beat it out of him" I lifted my head to look at my husband's loyal man servant

"Beat it out of whom?" Cesare asked

"The boy who had the letter" I could see deep regret and sadness in Michaletto eyes. I could also see betrayal and hurt. Whoever this boy was he had touched something in him and now there was this. Just to see this soul hurt after he has become a close friend to us , hurt deeply. I would have this boy dead for what he had done.

"What boy?" i asked

"The boy I took to my bed" he replied

"The spy you took to your bed." he corrected and Michaletto took out a blade and held it out to Cesare.

"Kill me now, My Lord, please." I took a intake of sharp breath. "please"

"No, no killing. You must keep on loving this boy." Cesare told his friend

"I can hate and love." in this moment I had truly felt my heart break for Michaletto. He became broken. Letting someone in only to find out they were a spy. Cesare collected the papers

"These papers are worth more than gold. They will tell us what she thinks, what she plans."  Cesare left.

"Michaletto" he looked at me and i took the blade from him and place it on the table. then wiped his tears away.

"You love this boy do you not?"

"I do not know what love is, my lady."

"I believe in here you do" I pointed to his heart "No matter what happens, Michaletto, Cesare and I will always be here for you. We are friends." I then hugged him and I felt more tears.

-------

The next night Michaletto copied down what he had seen and i wrote down the translation of the code.

" 'They suspect nothing, she thinks the King of Naples is a friend.' My God." I covered my mouth. I looked up to my husband

"We knew, somewhere we knew" he breathed also looking down at me

"Knew what, My Lord?" Michaletto asked

"He's in league with Caterina Sforza. King Fredarigo of Naples." i stood and looked him in the eye

"She chose the wrong brother!" I exclaimed

"My sister is no ambassador. She and her child will be kept hostage the moment we attack on Forli." he stopped and looked at his friend "Kill him, you kill they boy." he ordered and Michaletto. He nodded stiffly.

"Natalia go back to bed."

"But..."

"You shall go back to bed and rest. Speak of this to no one till I say." his voice was deep and there was no room for argument. I nodded and took my leave
