Tom's POV
I wake up and sit upright, rubbing my eyes groggily. I blink. There was something important that I was looking forward to today, but what was it? I look around my room to look for a clue as to what the mystery's solution might be, and then my eyes land on my pile of folded clothes. Oh, right! I was going to see Marco today! Let's see... today is a Friday, so he has school, I would assume.
I jump out of bed and take my clothes to my bathroom to put them on. After they are on and my tank-top and shorts are tossed into a pile in the corner, I get out my comb and hair gel to style my hair. I'll have to pull it down to cover my eye, so maybe I should go for a swishy hairstyle. I comb my hair down over and over until it stays, then I shake my hair to make it look more natural. After that, I take a small glob of gel and put it in my hair to keep it down. Lastly, I pull my beanie over my head and look into the mirror.
It looks good. No, not just good. It looks great! A perfect disguise! But something still seems off. My eyes are still too recognizable. I need makeup. And contacts. I open a drawer and pull out some liquid eyeliner (don't ask why I have it) and search for my colored contacts. I know I have some blue ones in here somewhere... Ah! Here they are! I set them on the counter and open the case, slowly putting them in. It's been a while since I've worn them. Next, I open the eyeliner and carefully apply it. I don't want to mess up. After two clean lines are made, I close my eyes and fan my face to let the makeup dry.
I open my eyes and look in the mirror. I look perfect! Man, I look so hot that I'd kiss myself. Ha-ha, maybe not. I smile and check the disguise once more to make sure there are no flaws, then I take my scissors and open a portal to Marco and Star's school.
I land at the school's bus stop right as a bus pulls into the parking lot. As I look at the people inside the bus, I spot Marco leaning against the window. Why does he look so depressed?! As the bus pulls closer I can see Star next to him fangirling over something. Oh, so he's not depressed, just annoyed. That's a relief. The bus pulls to a stop and I realize that I'm staring, but right as I notice my mistake, Marco and I make eye-contact. Oh crap. Now I probably look suspicious! What if he knows it's me? Oh no, I've already ruined everything...
But he doesn't look away or get angry. In fact, his eyes widen with an emotion other than anger or fear, but rather a more... more... pleasantly surprised emotion. Maybe he doesn't recognize me? He would never be happy to see me, so that has to be it. Then do I look like a different one of his friends? Or maybe...
"Ha-ha, what are you, gay?" someone says, shoving into me. "He keeps staring at Marco. He must like him or something." They say. My eyes widen with embarrassment, shock, and anger. My face flushes red and I quickly turn away from Marco and look at who dared to insult the prince of the underworld. Two teenage boys on their skateboards stand behind me, both breaking into laughter at the sight of me blushing. Oh, now they laugh at me? They don't know what they're in for! I feel anger rush through me, but then I remember something. If I get angry, my magic will show and my cover will be blown. Besides, I could kill them if I wanted to. But I don't. And I won't.
"H-hey, it's not that I like him!" I stutter. Perfect. A shy boy works as a good cover.
"Really, then why are you so embarrassed? C'mon, it's obvious you like him." He says with a hint of vexed anger. Oh, is he jealous?
"N-no, I think it's the other way around."
He pauses for a moment, shocked that I would say that, then anger boils over and he gives me a death glare. "Did you just call me gay? Are you looking for a fight?!" he yells. Oh no.
He throws a punch at my face. Pain. I give a small cry of agony as I fall to the ground from the blow. I scrape up my arms from the impact with the sidewalk. More pain. A growl escapes my lips as I hold in my anger. The boys start laughing, then one kicks my side and the breath is knocked out of my lungs. Eventually, I find it again and start coughing, but the boy silences me by putting his foot up to my chest and resting his weight on it, pinning me to the ground. This has never happened to me before. I don't know how to react. Since I can't use my power, they could totally beat me up. I look up at them in horror.
