I sat at the entrance of the cave where Sarah and I were hiding in. I could hear Sarah breathing. It was a steady in and out. The breaths were deep. She was still sleeping.
I sighed.
"Slade? Why are you up? It's still dark out," Sarah said sitting up with a yawn. She stood up and walked towards me. I frowned.
"I didn't mean to wake you," I said.
"You didn't. I'm just hungry," Sarah said looking through the cooler next to me. Suddenly, She sighed. I turned to see what was wrong.
"You okay?" I asked nervously.
"Yes. But we're almost out of food. I need to go hunting again," she said grabbing for her sniper rifle. Sarah's mom had been navy seal. She had taught Sarah how to use the rifle when she was younger.
"I'll do it. You need to rest," I said firmly.
"But Slade I ..." Sarah started.
"I'll be back soon. Screamed if you need me," I said taking the rifle out of Sarah's hand.
I left the cave. I didn't want Sarah hurt. I had heard from a friend of mine in town that the number of Zombies were increasing. I also found out that most Zombies, not all, but most didn't have emotions.
"Time to hunt," I whispered.
An hour or so later, as I walked back towards the cave, I heard a soft moan. I turned around to find a familiar face looking back at me. My mother's.
"Mom?!" I screamed.
"Girl. Give girl," she moaned. I backed up. Suddenly, I heard a scream coming from the detraction of the cave.
"Sarah... Damn it!" I growled as I raced towards the cave.
